well, tomorrow is my last day of NY season. I still have Jan in CT, but don't get out there that much. I hunted this morning and it was pretty darn cold. It was 10 degrees when i hit the woods this morning and got in my stand at 6am. At 8:30 I had 3 does come by at 40yds but it was too thick for a shot, a few minutes later 2 more came by in the same spot. At 9am 5 more deer came out near the same area but were slowly heading my way. From 9 to 10 I watched 5 deer from 40-60yds with my bow in hand and release clipped onto the string. That was cold! Finally a big doe stepped into my 35yds lane but was facing me. She stepped into the bushes and I had no shot. A minute later her skipper stepped into the same lane and turned broadside. I had to crouch under a limb but was able to get drawn and touch off a shot. It was a perfect heart/double lung shot and the deer only went 15yds. The doe and other skipper hung out and wouldn't leave or give me a shot and I was cold and had someplace to be so i climbed down. The doe didn't leave she actually came into less than 5yds as i gutted the deer.......I was very tempted to shoot her but the other skipper was so small and I was cold and late. i stood up and she finally bolted.......she was lucky! I have never seen a deer so brazen before in my life, especially on this property. Randy and I are headed back in the morning and I'm looking for another skipper for New years dinner, although I'm giving him the better stand, so hopefully one of us will get lucky!
