You know, people (read as archers) tend to have strong feelings about the topic of distance shots on animals. This is a good thing, and it is a debate of great worth to our sport - we need to keep each other in line and police our ranks or someone else will step in and do it for us. None of us would care for that to happen. Of this, I think we can all agree... As to what is an ethical shot - I hope the debate rings clear and loud 500 years from now!!! Think about that for a moment...
Maybe I need to go back to the begining of this thread and read it again, but I thought we were talking about shooting at the target range - where the targets do not move. Ever. Unless someone is moving them, in which case our bows are set aside. Shooting at animals is a different case - should be a different thread, not this one.
Stilllearning - no worrys, dude! It is all good input. BT - I have no issues with any of your thoughts on the matter, and I think that no one doubts where your heart is! To be honest, it is probably a really good idea to state very clearly right here and now that this site does not promote 100 yard shots at animals with any type of bow!
And with that, I think we can shoot targets at what ever range we want to...

OMG!!!! Guys please..... I just want to shoot long distance....this is the "Backyard Shooting" board!!! Not the Big, or Small Game board!!!! I see where I messed up was with my flippant, trying to be funny, comment to SL about that being where the deer come out in the field...my bad!! SMJ hit it on the head...it's all about challenging yourself as an archer to develop and hone your skills. And, a great testament to a tuned bow. I really wanted to start a thread that would inspire people on the board to try it out and post it for fun. I think that we can still do it, I'm working on 125yds now though, so look out!!

Well were working on it flexing the shoulder and shot a few 80 yards tonight ... slicks flew 4-6" lower than fps ... I'll do bh out to 100 or maybe 150 ... but after that is fp only; got to wait till the horses are moved cause they might run into my arrow on its way back down!

In th summer shootout they flew 7" lower but that was also on a 800 grain shaft

I remember BT - it's just that I'm paying off bills and don't want to get me some 100 grn montecs (I've got the 125's from 2 yrs ago but 100's fly better So if I have to adjust sights a little so be it; I'm not gonna hunt at 80 yards anyhow I wondered how the slicks would do sense they flew low for you last year - now I know They are precise, but shooting low.
