Still Learning.....your opening a can of worms on this one.. ;D There was a debate last year about that very subject...I will say that I did the first 100 poke in response to people wondering how ethical, and yadda yadda, it was to shoot an animal at 100 yds. My findings were that with a medium speed bow, it was rediculous.... But....with a Hoyt Vulcan, that takes about 1, that's right 1, second to cover that distance, I'm not so sure it's not possible. Those were my first shots...I'll be practicing at that distance all summer....I'll post groups in a few weeks, and we'll see how consistent they turn out. That target isn't in that spot for nothing...that's where the deer come out into my field!!

Another thing can be said for practicing at that distance. It'll make 30 yards seem like it's right in front of ya!!! I compare it to baseball and the way a batter uses weights to warm up before entering the box. Makes the bat seem lighter.

I figure if you practice and get good at that distance then it is up to you. I just don't think I am going to get to that point any time soon. ;D ;D ;D

Want to start that thread all over? NO WAY is 100 yards ethical It'd be better if you said no way is 100yards ethical for yourself BT!! Hard to press your ethics on someone else with a blanket statement. In a lot of cultures eating dogs is considered ethical. Won't fly for most here in the States. But ethics are a "personal" thing.

Still Learning...hang in there and before long, you will be getting baseball size groups at 20 and 30 yards.
Shooting long distance is great practice. It makes you concentrate harder and the shorter ranges will seem much easier and Michi said.
NOW, I am going to say that most bowhunters are no way good enough to be taking shots at game at those yardages. The average bowhunter does not that skill to judge distance and dope the wind. It's one thing to shoot at a target that doesn't move, and a whole different story when an animal can take a step or two and make for a bad hit. then there are small saplings that you don't see half way to that animal.
There are some that are capable of making those shots...but I don't think we should advocate it as most don't have that level of experience.
Better to keep it short. It's much more exciting anyway.
