He's out there again right now!! Little or not, I might have to give him a go in the morning, he'd sure to be roosting nearby ... for anyone that doesn't know, turkeys are really active in the rain, and this is the best time to take advantage of them!!

My Dad always said, "you can not hunt from your living room." Until last year fall turkey season my Bro and I both saw the birds from inside each of our houses (we live an hour apart) and then went around and stalked them across and through the yard.
So, get on out there. We can not hunt Sundays here. ARRGGHHH.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! I missed!!!! Biggest problem with getting up at 430am......having the bird coming your way...reaching into your jacket, and realizing.....no rangefinder!!! I was positioned in a swamp on the eastern side of my field, where the Tom sidestepped past last time, and here comes a decent size Jake, looked a little bigger than the one last night, but in the rain it is hard to tell as they puff and dry out. Man, it couldn't have been a better ambush, it was coming right for me, (as Ned would say), All of a sudden, a gunshot rings out, maybe a couple of hundred yards to my left....the bird jumps up, stretches it's neck out, looks, listens......then goes back to grazing...or whatever it is they do. So now I'm waiting for what I think is the 30 yd mark...no way to tell except by guessing...doh!......and I think that It's there, so I draw back.....center on the bird...and .....whack.....not only do I send the arrow sailing over it's back.....but my Mach X sounded somewhat like that shotgun blast a few minutes ago, and the bird flew straight up and out to the Forrest!!!! I s%ck, my bow s%cks..aaahhhh. Oh well, just goes to show no matter how good you are on pre measured distance paper, the real thing is a whole new world.....I'm going to have to start doing some 3D to overcome this new found chink in the armor, I'm a little depressed right now, but I'll get over it. Turns out it was 25yds. must have been a little smaller than I thought.

Exciting though, eh?!?!
I pre-mark out to 20 and 30 yards with branches/sticks sticking in the ground. If I forget my rangerfinder, I just pace it out. I can not range for the life of me.
Keep at it, you'll get one. Some people are not even getting shots in, so you are one step ahead there.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ROTFLMAO!!! I was just in the kitchen, and Mrs.SPIKER is asking me how much this is going to cost us. So, I'm like what are you talking about? And she says, I know that your going to blame your bow for missing that turkey, so how much is this new bow going to cost....to which I replied, "What are you talking about"? So I go through the board, and see your post, and burst out laughing.....Mrs. SPIKER knows somethings up, and comes to investigate. She reads the post and yells....."I knew it"! Oh man, you can't make this stuff up!

so I went to pull my woodchuck traps today. i took 4 out of the property and the owners are very happy. It was 11:30am. i 3was walking back to the truck and i thought I heard a gobble. I gave a few yelps with my mouth and I was cut off by another gobble. I couldn't believe it. i made my way bck to the drivway, where my truck was parked. I heard another gobble.....closer this time! I gave another 3 yelps with my mouth. Now I have non stop gobbling and the turkey comes into 30yds of me. I am hiding behind my truck and he is strutting back and forth choking himself gobbling. He had about a 9" beard. I opened my truck door and was scrambling to find a weapon. I had NO bow or shotgun.........I had taken both out yesterday. This was killing me. I didn't even have a camera. He ended up within 20yds or so before he finally moved off a bit. i could have taken that bird with any of my bows without a problem. I am heading back tomorrow.........with a bow.
