so ray and I hit the woods today at 8am. he didn't want to set up if we didn't here a gobble. we called on and off for a few minutes and heard nothing. I had a place picked out to sit, but we decided we wanted to make sure a bird was in the area first. we all of a sudden we got a gobble in the distance.....and then again much closer. we made a 50yd dash for the truck to grab our blind and gear. another gobble, very close to where i had picked to set up. we changed plans and moved to a dirt area where they park excavators and such. we got set up and the gobbles got closer. we called a hen right into our set up and she was calling like mad.....driving the tom crazy. she ended up leaving and he mus have followed cause he was very close but we didn't see him. he was behind the blind. he would not stop gobbling. he walked off and we brough him in again....behind the blind. he walked down to where he came from. where i wanted to set up originally, where i saw him yesterday. he came back and left again. we heard him way off so we decided to call it quits. we got out of the blind and decided to look for a spot to set up tomorrow. GOBBLE.....here he comes again. this time ray was behind me and I got a good look at him. he's a very good bird. he was in range but passed my openings before i could get a shot. he ended up walking past Ray(who was unarmed) at 10 yds.....still gobbling. he finally went down the hill and still wouldn't shut up. we decided to back off and go set up tomorrow where we have seen hin 2 days in a row now.......wish us luck.

Ray calls him the "Red Barron" and his days are very limited! I hope he eats a good last meal tonight!

He says don't worry, he'll be armed to the teeth tomorrow!
we did have(judging by the gobbles) a jake come in at first with the Tom. any legal bird is going down, so we may very well be able to double out tomorrow.......well, we have our fingers crossed. if they come in together it stands as a good posibilty, cause usually when one goes down the other will jump on it instead of running away.
