Not sure if your promoting poaching Kris ;D but the rules here in MI don't allow you to shoot 1/2 hr before sunrise nor 1/2 hr after sunset. That pic looks like at least an hour after sunset.
;D Not at all Michi but I am trying to be realistic
The fact is that there are states that allow hunting till 1/2 after dusk ....... dusk means alot of things and can vary wildly within any given day.
For instance..it may be 5:00 sunset but with a heavy storm the sun is blotted and it may be easily dusk at 4:00.
I don't know anyone who is going to abandon the stand at that point or before they have to
In NY the end time is ridiculous with the end time being sun set....meaning that there is an hour of good light left.
I am talking about light enough for myself to see a squirrel at 200 yards
If I see a deer coming in at 200 yards at sunset and it takes 1/2 to get to me....I don't abandon my stand at that point , mainly because it is going to be an hour before dark....real dark
One other point...
I have hunted a few spots where the canopy is so thick that it is easily dark (real dark) 1/2 hour after sunset.
Still legal shooting time back home.
More pointedly though is the fact that alot of people are going to stay on stand till they cant see the leafs on the ground anymore.
I am not going to pretend like it doesn't happen or fault someone who is so intense as to be nailed to that stand till such a point in time.
I am instead looking for insight into what happens when those shots are taken.
We all know it happens because we all read enough posts each year that state something like this .
[white]I didn't see where the arrow hit but it sounded good.[/white]
When you start referring to sound it is because that is what your brain was keyed in on
You Brain went to it's next best sense because it couldn't perceive the sight as well as the sound.
When I see these posts I read into the Freudian slip and hear the person say ... I couldn't see but I heard
Therefore the reason for this discovery
I want to find a common theme for low light shots if one exists before the next season comes around.
In this way (if the is a common theme) we can better understand the possibility's of what might have happened and therefore better coach the person that is asking for help
After analyzing the information I want to (if anything of worth is found) condense this and add it into the help section
