I am not planning on anything out of state and I am not going to put a truck load of time into one for myself but I am going to hit an area that has bear for a couple of weeks during the season. I hear alot of talk about Ontario this year and it seems like people on average are getting more stoked over the years in numbers wanting too or planning to go. I have always promoted Maine as the place to go since the cost of doing a successful hunt is next to nothing while the potential is high on self guided. For all of the Talk....I still don't go back home to give it a go If they ever opened a spring season , that would be different but fall deer season just takes the priority for me.

The two guides are Mark Drew and Randy Moore.Mark Drew owns an operates a Red Deer hunting preserve in Houlton,Maine. im not sure about now,but previously he has had the world record stags for velvet production, wich translates into world record antlers! after he takes them to the competition out west, the next season he sells the stag for anywheres from $50,000 on up in a hunt on his preserve.he always sells the hunt! Randy is Marks half brother, together they guide for the black bear hunts.it is quite the small low keyed guide service.when i was up there in '03,they only took 5 hunters per week an only hunted 3 weeks.no hunter ever sits in the same stand twice unless he/she elects to do so.no hunter is put in a stand with less than a 95% "hit" rate at the bait.they drop u off at the stand itself, then they come back to pick you up.everyone is given a 2 way radio so that they may communicate with Mark or Randy if necessary.as i stated earlier,it is a small scale an low key operation.the hunters meet at Marks house/preserve upon arriving in Houlton.the hunt is $900(they avg 90-98% success rate),my two bro's an i rented a cabin on a small EXTREMELY quiet lake for $450 for the week.there is a small motel in town also.more than likely i am forgetting some details, but as you folks respond,i will fill in any info that i know of.basically, they are just two country boys having fun doing what they love an helping others do what they love at the same time! even if you are not into hunting, stop in an see Mark. you will be truly amazed when he shows you 30-35 point Red Stags weighing 550-650 lbs!!!!
