i forgot to mention that the Maine license runs tween $145 an $200 depending on if ur hunting with bow or gun.the last i knew, his success rate was around 92%-94% with sightings upwards of 98%.i also watched 3 cow moose while on my stand about 1 hour prior to filling my tag.as i stated previously, they have so many stands that ya dont have to hunt the same one twice unless you want to.they choose the most productive stands to hunt 1st,then down the ladder.they try to use only stands that are being hit atleast 5 days of the week.

Maybe I could get together with you next year if you want and it works out for me ?. I would like to have someone who really has a good serious business in my home state. I love Maine but as far as guides go , it's about the worst with the high majority just out to make a buck on an out of stater. Thats the facts....nothing personal ...... My own family guides and knows most of the big names from having grown up with or near them. They are (for the most part) all the same. As I say....it would be good to have an honest man to reference work too.

Was just out for this evening in a ground blind. Was a new area that I hadn't tried before. Saw 19 bears cross a 70yd x 150yd stretch of open field between large bush and a cornfield. I have a very good idea of exactly where I'll be stting the blind up tomorrow. That open area is cut corn stubble that is way too noisy for stalking (and I definitely do not wish to stalk them within the cornfield. There must have been at least 4x that # of bears within that 1/8 section (if that) of corn. In all, I saw close to 30 bears today. Ya gotta love Manitoba at times like this.

MAN! ..... That is just nuts! Where are the Pics?! The pics are fairly sparse. My camera makes a very loud 'click' when I use it so I don't use it while hunting. Apparently it can be turned off, but I haven't been able to figure it out. I took a few pics before & after. The 1st pic is of a bear in a picnic area about 2 miles from where we hunted (couldn't hunt in there). This is one of four bears in we saw during a quick drive through (with a very brief stop) at this site on Friday. At this place, we stopped to have a look at the water edge, and after walking about 10 yards from the car, I hear a big commotion in a tree to my right and see a decent sized bear about 10 feet up in an oak tree that is 6 yards away from me. He was so preoccupied with eating acorns that he couldn't care less about our presence. The piles of bear poop you see in the pic are all over the place. One of the locals said that he saw 11 bears at this site the other day. You be hard pressed to find a 10 foot diameter patch of grass that did not a pile in it. That's the only pic I have from Friday. Yesterday we set up the ground blind near the cornfield I had mentioned earlier. There is a 4x4 track right along the edge of the bush and the field, with a bit of a ditch to the field. We setup the Double Bull Matrix ground blind (more on this later) just along the edge of this track - sticking slightly out into it. We through some berry twigs that we cleared along the roof of the blind to brush it in. We put a coffee can with some used cooking oil fat about 15 yds down the track go in the blind and waited. Over the next couple of hours we saw about 4 bears step onto the track at distances out of bow range, then one came out quite close and proceeded to the can of grease. This guy was pretty small and I suggested to my friend (who hadn't killed big game before), to wait for something bigger. While this little guy was licking the grease we heard branches snapping inside the bush very close to the blind, as did the small bear. The small bear perked his ears up toward the sounds in the bush, got spooked, then bolted right past the blind (almost brushing up against it as he passed by). This bear was completely oblivious to us being in the blind the whole time. Unbelievable! I was a little leery about forking out for a Double Bull, but they really are an awesome product which is easily worth 10x the price of a cheaper blind I tried last fall. Any way back to the story, about 10 minutes after BooBoo bolted, my buddy checks the back side of this trail and sees a couple of guys walking on the trail towards us. Turns out to be a couple of gun hunters. My buddy gets out of the blind and mentions that we set things up for an archery hunt here, and they are respectful and head back to their vehicles to work a different area. Another 1/2 hour goes by and another small bear comes in and goes to the grease. My buddy decides he's not going to be picky and just wants a bear (which is fine since there is something of an overpopulation of them in this area ;D). He draws, shoots what looks to be a good shot (15 yds), so we waited in the blind for about 1/2 an hour. We then get out of the blind and track him to find him dead as a doornail about 50 yards from where he was hit. Entrance wound Exit wound Little bear - my buddy is about 250 lbs however (I don't have his permission to post his pic on the net so I cropped it) Layout of the area I tried flagging and picture taking some blood trail pics but those photos did not turn out. Additionally it was getting late into the evening and other bears were milling about in that field, so we thought it best to focus on dressing him and getting him out of there. My buddy was using an Eastman Outfitter Trilock that some general outdoor sports placed peddled. Nonetheless it did hold together & looked to be in good condition after the shot and got the job done. It's my turn tomorrow.
