I'll start the story now, but i still don't have much time. so I'll finish it later.
I picked up Rayzortech around 7am and we went straight to the property we were hunting. we set up the blind on the edge of this grass strip, where the tom had been the 2 previous days. The "field" is 30yds wide. Perfect for a bow set up. we were all ready to go by 7:30. Right off the bat we had a few deer checking us out. It was a nice cool and sunny morning. we started calling around 8am. we just called a little, maybe every 10 minutes or so. we hadn't heard a thing. around 8:45 I thought I heard a gobble.........WAAAAAY off in the distance. After that nothing. we weren't seeing any kind of wildlife at all. Ray and I just talked a bit in hushed whispers. ............more to come. sorry guys.

Ray and I just talked a bit in hushed whispers. ............more to come. sorry guys. Well, by 9am, Ray was ready to leave. He was practicly begging me to pack it in. We "might" have heard a gobble in the distance and that was it. That wasn't the action we had yesterday and it sure wasn't enough to keep Ray interested. Some of our conversations went like this for a bit. Skip-"Man, the way that Jake(decoy) is in the sun and moving with the wind, it looks so great. It looks real" Ray- "yeah, but who cares if it's just the two of us looking at it" Ray- "He probably just moved on to a new roost last night and is in a different county" Skip-"lets sit a little longer........maybe he's just late, or coming in quiet" Ray-"Thats no fun, I wanna see him strut and gobble and drag his wings" Skip-"I don't care if he comes in doing a belly crawl, covered in grass and leaves. I just wanna get a crack at him" Ray- "I need to take a break. I need a ciggerette." Skip- "you forgot them in the truck?" Ray- "no, but i can't smoke in here(the blind). we'll die." skip-"are you kidding me, it's not like it's air tight, we have the window open" Ray-"you think they'll see the smoke?" Skip-" we would need turkeys around for them to have a chance" well, thats how it went for about 30minutes. us just trying to convince the other to stay or leave. We were having a good time. I think ray was having fun busting my chops. I was thinking maybe ray was right and we would have been better off after carp. well about 9:30 I hear a gobble, a real gobble this time. It was responding to a call I made. I tell Ray and he didn't hear it. i had to convince him that I was serious. I call again and he responds closer. i wait a minute and call. he's closer this time. I shut up and wait for a minute and through a crack in the side window we see a hen walking right down the middle of the "field". I am now shaking and ray is more pumped that I am. I reminded him to turn the camera on. she walks past our blind at 25yds. We see him at full strut, gobbling and dragging his wings. I lose site of him as he walks toward the front opening. ray is now tapping my leg as he looks out the side window and I don't know if that means draw or not. I look over and the hen passed wide of us and into a small ditch behind some tall weeds. i can just barely see her head. The tom was about 20yds behind and headed her way, not ours! He stepped clear at 24yds and I drew. I drew so hard I think i almost ripped the string off my Vulcan! He's still walking toward her and I put the pin on him and dropped the hammer. the shot was about 2" high and one of the blades split his spine(the other 2went into the chest cavity). At the hit you could here the blades deploy on the spitfire. The tom fell and began flapping like crazy. Ray turned to me and said "what the hell did you shoot. it sounds like a Huey trying to take off. shoot him again" It was then that I realized that I didn't wait until the bird was in frame. I didn't need another shot, the bird was down. we ran up to it and sure enough, it was The Red Barron. same long skinny beard. we were so pumped. I can't believe it wasn't on film Must be the property. I was 200yds from where I took my recurve 6pt this year!
