The oldest was shooting great this morning but fell apart in the afternoon. Not to worry though because it's not like he will be shooting hogs all day ;D I think he is very ready

Ok, how about a rundown of the final preparations. Are we having the pig roast Sat. night? No permits or licenses are needed, correct? 80 quart min. cooler required, good sized knife for defense recommended. CLOTHING FOR ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS! April is a tricky month and we could possibly have wintry, or springy conditions. Let's not forget rain! Two bows, I have a portable bowpress, but not for split limb bows, anyone else have one? It might be good a good idea to have one. Any other info would be good now, better than later.

We're very near my friends!! As for me, I have packed a lot of my things already. I know it may seem like plenty of time yet but with other things going on for us, our work and family things, Friday will be here before we know it, and we will be there as "The Nuge" says, chasing " pork chops with legs". I agree with BT! Very important to bring a good attitude and lots of exciting anticipation. I'm sure between all of us, there will be little to be desired equipment wise. We'll have plenty of food, and the cook there for our breakfast and lunch is VERY good. As for the weather, it may be rainy or even some snow from what the local weather is calling for but as Spiker said, most of us have hunted in every conceivable type of weather at one time or another so whatever it is will be just a "part of the hunt". As for the hogs...when I was at the Wilderness lodge a little over a week ago, it rained about all day and they were bringing hogs in one after another and I didn't see any under 200 lbs. Being wet weather as BT said on the other thread, the hogs were moving a LOT. I talked to a few of the hunters about what they were seeing and they all said there were "lots" of hogs, but you had to work like h*** to get them and there was a lot of chasing with few"good" shots because the hogs were usually trotting or running. The guides told me...(several of them)....that if we were on stands, they would chase hogs out to us..and believe me, that is an understatement. These guides really work hard for you to make sure you see hogs. They said not to be in a big hurry to take one, because you will see a lot of them and have more than one opportunity and you will have "choices". There will be lots of food, lots of relaxation and lots of fun hopefully...and above all lots of "comradery". Let's just keep it fun, work together when we must and enjoy or "mini vacation"...chase a lot of hogs and " smoke a lot of bacon".

A .44 mag (heck even a .357 mag with 180 grain bullets) is a lot better back up then a knife, if you want to take on a hog with a knife and no dogs you are a lot braver man or woman than I am. I personally would have a good climbable tree really close to me, rather than the knife.

Working on the stew tonight (2hrs. so far) and listening to the weather. Calling for snow That will be a big assist in finding struck hogs which don't leave a heck of alot of evidence of that fact. I have gone back to the summer shootout '06 and based on all factors I have selected and purchased 2 packs of the Wasp Boss Bullets in 75gr. The boss will give them the advantage of penetration along with added cutting area and improved flight. Both boys were all over the heart on the Rinehart today and yesterday with no fliers at all I have gone to the Mamba and will continue to shoot it till the day before we go. If I am up to the Browning I will use it and if not I will stick close with the Martin This is gonna be great!

It's here! (close enough ) I fully expect to either die in my sleep or in my car on the way down ;D If the latter happens then you guys are going to be short stew and beans This is always my biggest worry to be honest Seriously! Every hunting season I fear that I will live just long enough to be cheated out of it by death Stupid I know , the truth is that if I made it into the woods with my bow in hand ( if only that far into the season ) , then I could die a happy man at that time I just have to make it 2 more days
