eastern, I may have to have you make me a bow! That is a fine looking bow to be sure...
How much follow does it show after shooting, and how much goes away with setting? How much did it settle in after shooting it in a bit? Are you happy with the tiller?
What would be your biggest "jewel" of information you'd give a first time bowyer, now that you've made a couple?
I really like your work! Nice job indeed... I should have some to post later this month, I hope they come out well!

Thanks SMJ...I don't think I'm ready to let anyone shoot these things 'cept me or SL yet....We can take knocks on the head if she blows! It settled into 1.5" set from flat profile after inital shooting..had me worried some, but it stopped there. Shoot it awhile and it'll show 2" set, but slowly comes back to 1.5". I've had others say that's fine for a flatbow. As far as tiller goes, I KNOW that the upper limb is stiffer than I wanted, but if I recall, I wanted to stay within legal hunting weight of 45lbs and up, so I quit tillering after I hit 50lbs at 26". mAYBE THAT WAS WRONG, BUT i REALLY WANTED TO HUNT WITH THIS THIS YEAR! Final sanding brought it in to 47-48lb at 27". I've also been told by more experienced bowyers that both limbs could bend more from midlimb out to 6" from the tips. NExt time I'll do better I hope! First timers advice? GO SLOW AND BE PATIENT! PAy close attention tohow the limbs are bending..Listen to your bow. Thanks again SMJ...I appreciate your critique and kind words...I'm pretty happy with it for a second finished bow...now if I just had some bamboo! BTW, how did you make out with that Missouri Trading Post bamboo slats you got?

I will be putting bamboo from the Missouri Trading Post on the next three bows I make. I'll let you know! (Looks wise, it does in fact appear to be bamboo...)
I think it was Pope who said that once a bow starts to show more than 2" of follow, it is time to make another! (This would be after some unstrung rest...) 1 to 1.5 inches right in line with what might be expected. The better the tillering job, the more close to 1" you can get. (I suspect that depends a bit on the wood used and overall design, too. You can't over-stress the wood and expect it to recover. As in making the bow to narrow or to short...)
