Generally speaking...you want to leave something...maybe a few peanuts that will be taken by the time you get back the next day. You want to have something where the boost or butternut was....if you have those lures/scents on the ground. If you go to the site www.butternutlures.comyou will find directions and advanced techniques....all of which should allow you to apply your lures/scents properly at any location. Generic setting would be to place the butternut cloth between 2' & 3' off the ground with the boost drag being used within the shooting range of the stand. The cloth that came with the kit....cut in thirds. This will give you three rags...one for the drag, one for the scent post and an x-tra.

Thanks... I went to the site and followed the directions. I was out for 12 hours nothing came into the Butternut. I love the way it smells and trust in the knowledge of this site. I will continue to try it. I ahve another location I want to try.

I am always looking for the next best thing (which I believe we will have within a year or less) so I have the code blue temptation. Our lures are 100% oil and therefore, will hold and transfer heat better than water or water base. So far to date....the Code blue is hands down the best commercially available electric unit designed to be used as a lure heater. I wont go into just how bad all the rest are  Here are the thermal imaging temp reading starting at the bottom of the tube and leading to the top. The only way I could achieve the 106 was to overfill and float out into the dished area where the lid attach's. The true usable temperature was 72 degree's when used as directed. This was shot with an outside temperature of 46 degree's There will be a temperature offset as outside temperature drops as well. I suspect that our lure will benefit to 34 degree's over a distance of 30 yards or less at this lower temperature. For water base or straight urine....half the distance at that temperature with a 5 degree lower overall internal temperature (warmer) against temperature drops (evening) This is the best I have seen and I used it tonight to lure in a few Doe and a very nice 6pt. I like it....for what it is :thumbs_up P.S.... As to the construction .... this cannot make anyone money as whole seller. The construction is top notch and I couldn't find one thing to criticize. Amazing product for the price!

I have been saving the butternut cheese cloth in a zip lock bag but after 8 times out hunting it is starting to turn brown, is it time to make a new cloth?

Yes....maybe. If it is just a matter of the oil calsifying...thats no biggie. However...if the bag is starting to leech....throw it out and change the bag. Only the nose will know for sure. IMO .... cloth and a zip lock are too cheap to hang on to when anything is in question.
The original is big enough for three clothes...if you got the kit.

I got mine when it was only the bottle, not even a name on the bottle. ;D Will not look like much in a pic. Ghost

Cabela's has these for 22 bucks. I bet it works better than the Thermascent.

Update....
I have gone to the three largest manufacturers in the United State and all three said that the only way to make the seal ...is to change the bottle to a softer plastic. That said...that cant be done.
The current bottle is a grade that will not be broken down by the lure and a softer plastic would have negative results during storage...to both the bottle and the lure.
So...The question is answered by the elimination of the dispenser cap all together.
I will be going with the cap that is currently sold with the 1oz bottles unless we come up with a manufacturer that can solve the problem.
