Personally BT I like the Bleeders. Were they are so small would it cause to much trouble to leave them on during my shooting? I really like the thought of the extra cut if they hit a blood vessel on there way through the animal.
plus these are my hunting heads and hate to modify them.
Well here is some food for thought and you can obviously do what you want but this is something to consider....
Your biggest issue had been getting through bone and as much as this x-tra bow may boost your ability to increase penetration, it is not a magic wand
I have always said that you should build to the game you hunt and the equipment that you hunt with.
If you can blow through a barn door and through the cow inside, you dont need to concern yourself with mass but you do need to concern yourself with the strength of the broadhead.
When you can't get through the cow with the barn door open and the cow rubbing up against you, you need to concentrate on the mass of the broadhead.
Sometimes it's not a matter of what we would desire but rather a capitulation to what we can achieve.
Remember that little guy that you shot with the spitfire?
You got 18" of penetration with a 1 1/8" broadhead that went through 1 rib @ 25yards.
That was the smallest deer your likely to shoot on average.
By contrast, the buck that was here last year had at least 4X the mass for his ribs and the Doe Hopesman shot two years back had at least 2X that mass.
We aren't even talking about a scapula which (as you well know) can and does happen.
Look at the mass index of the bleeders on that head.
1X1 ratio and not sheer away (unlike originally designed)
Look at the hole that was blown out in that bucket.
Regardless of the condition of the bucket...you blew out a section which shows there was a blunt impact to that area.
The only thing blunt on that arrow were the bleeders
I am sure that 99% of the time you would blow right through....enough to make a clean kill.
But...what if a 250# Buck steps out in front of you and the only shot you have is where you have to crowd the shoulder.
The answer to that question should dictate what you are going to do.
Would you pass the shot or would you take it?
As for myself, I would tell you to not take shots that I have taken myself in the heat of the moment and I will again...I am just that way and I know that about myself
What if you set up on principals that you are forced to follow and then dont?
This is the most important question I think and I think if you answer it correctly, you will make the right choice no matter what choice you make
