Hi aweshucks

Re: To the best of my knowledge, - in most, - if not all states, hunters safety ed is now "required" for "new" hunters entering into the sport of hunting. If the xbow is going to be introduced as another weapon of choice, then it needs to be part of the hunter ed program. - IF - xbow were to be given equal inclusion as a weapon of choice, in most states this would be a "new" inclusion, therefore yes, you would need a class specific to the xbow. This would be for new (first time) xbow applicants. You would probably only need the xbow specific class for the short term (4 -6 years) after which it would become part of the existing hunters ed program. Current xbow permit holders would be grand fathered in. (no need for class due to fact they have already jumped threw hoops)

Re: As you say, "everyone who ever shoots a crossbow" - the problem is, not everyone has shot xbow. With out an education program, I can foresee a whole lot of people jumping in based on the myth & thereby see all of the expressed fears coming true. (not a pretty site) You are not going to stop stupid negligent's, but you can certainly take steps to reduce it & required ed is the path to reduction.
You wrote; - That particular myth got started by anti xbow factions and is perpetuated to this day on places like Bowsite, Pope and Young, ect. Try educating those folks
Re: IMO the best way to educate these folk, - is to show them that we are big on education!!!
You wrote; - I don't mean to play the Devils advocate here, but I have more than enough Govt. in my life as is, so I need to see some real advantages in inviting more. You cannot legislate ethics or behavior in this country. Look only to the problems w/ drugs and illegally owned guns by criminals.
Re: AGREED, - but funny isn't it, we all want better roads, better schools, better parks, better emergency response etc. etc. but we don't want to pay for it???
