Thanks skip. I may have just got someone that didn't know for sure what the story was. I am not going to worry about it either way but if this does fall through then it would be a dissapointment not to say the trip couldn't happen latter when I have more time to save for it. I have not given up hope yet as no one knows for sure what can happen.

Taken directly from the licensing site. does this not say bowhunting as well as rifle? Non-Resident Big Game (Deer only) Age: 16+ Years Qualifications: 1. Hunter Ed. Certificate, OR 2. Previous Hunting License Privileges: Hunt deer only during the regular season with gun, muzzleloader, or bow with proof of bowhunter education on the hunter's person; or hunt only with a shotgun or muzzleloader during Long Island special January deer season. NOTE: Those under 18 who are hunting big game for the first time as a holder of a big game license must be accompanied, for the entire season, by a parent or legal guardian, or a person over 18 with at least one year's experience in hunting bear or deer. The parent, guardian or person over 18 must have a current license that allows the hunting of big game. Cost: $110.00 Sorry for the confusion but when is regular season down that way? Is Oct 19 in the regular season? Look at this as well it says nothing about having to buy both licenses. Non-Resident Bowhunting (Deer only) Age: 16+ years Qualifications: 1. Hunter Ed. Certificate, OR 2. Previous Hunting License PLUS 1. Acceptable Bowhunter Ed. Certificate, OR 2. NYS Bow Stamp issued 1980 or later, OR 3. NYS Jr. Archery License issued 1980 or later, OR 4. NYS Non-Resident Bowhunting or Combination License issued 1993 or later. Privileges: Hunt deer only with a bow only during archery seasons. Cost: $110.00 I think the worker was realy confused.

The regular season is the "gun" season. although you can use any weapon. that starts in mid november. westchester is considered "regular" season for the entire season because it is bow only. that runs from Oct 13th to Dec 31st.

I will call again tomorw and his this information right in front of me when I talk to them. Thanks Skip. All may good and the trip on. Good to clear this up now though. I realy want to come.

You do (as a resident) have to buy a license and a bowhunting stamp for that license but the web site says that out of state hunters buy a big regular license or archery license. No mention of having to buy both and it wouldn't make sense if that was the fact.

Here is the link: www.dec.ny.gov/permits/6101.htmlI used to live in NY, but now have to buy a non-resident license, and I do it either on line or over the phone. The problem that you guys will have because you are doing this the first time is that you have to "show" proof that you have the bowhunting certification. Therefore you may only be able to do this via the mail in option. They say that it could take 3 weeks for you to get your tags. You may want to call the toll-free number 1-86-NY-DECALS (1-866-933-2257) and talk this through with them. I have called several times over the years, and they have always been very helpful. Good Luck! If you have done this as a non-resident what licnenses have you had to purchase?

OK I was just talking to a fellow at the licensing office and he tried to tell me the same thing as the guy yesterday. I asked for a supervisor and he went and checked with the supervisor. If you have never hunted with a rifle or bow before you need to purchase both licenses BUT if you have proof of a past hunting license then you only have to purchase the bow hunting license. All I have to do is find a copy of last year license and all will be good. Now were did I put that?
