Hey BT, I just picked up on this thread and looked at all of the stand pictures They look great and that first stand looks just like the Wally mart one that I just picked up for use here in about 3 weeks Gonna start some scouting next week to find a good location for it. For sure I will never find a location where deer are coming and going on almost every angle like yours The question as to temperatures was on my mind SL and it's nice to know that it won't likely be cold at all. Now if the rain just stays away BT, I notice in your driving directions that you avoided route 84 which actually looks like a more direct route to your location. Is this because you wanted to route us away from Hartford? Also google maps shows you on Noxon Rd. Is that correct? You can take 84 but it can be slower. If you are arriving there @ or around 6AM you'll be o.k. but after that it gets hot and heavy with traffic. I like the route to Albany and then the Taconic to Poughkeepsie because generally there is no slow going. The bigger issue is ease of direction for you If you see a travel route that you believe is more straight forward then PLEASE....by all means take that route! A lag in traffic is never as bad as a lost traveler Hopefully you will be able to make it here by 3:00 and can jump out of the car , run to the stand and make the evening hunt Really.....lets not spend more time then it takes to shake hands , take a leak and then get out there Come into the driveway ready to pull on the camo , take a few warm up shots and go! .... time is short and we need you two out there as much as possible. With all of that said.....watch you guys tag out in the first 4 hours ;D By the way....You might want to apply for those licenses right away and add an x-tra $10. for x-tra Doe tags. Put in for one tag in unit 3S and the other for unit 3F. I might have to buy another freezer to freeze the meat but I'll be ready one way or the other

Some years ago NY started to put the actual time of day that you purchased the license on the tag itself. So there is no waiting period. Just make sure that you have proof that you have taken and passed a bowhunting certification course.

Can this be done on line and paid for my credit card? I looked but could not find a link to do it.

Here is the link: www.dec.ny.gov/permits/6101.htmlI used to live in NY, but now have to buy a non-resident license, and I do it either on line or over the phone. The problem that you guys will have because you are doing this the first time is that you have to "show" proof that you have the bowhunting certification. Therefore you may only be able to do this via the mail in option. They say that it could take 3 weeks for you to get your tags. You may want to call the toll-free number 1-86-NY-DECALS (1-866-933-2257) and talk this through with them. I have called several times over the years, and they have always been very helpful. Good Luck!

If you can do it you should. On the other hand....Ask if there are Doe tags available after October 13th (as a rule) and if so....can you apply for the Doe permits at a license location after the fact. (I don't think so but ask anyway)

By the way.....as to the camo. If you have a few sets and one is lighter....grab those. The vegetation here will be green with some color through in and very little will be dark. My deer are alot more skiddish then the ones in Skipmasters area and a dark blob is going to have to stay VERY STILL Hopefully there will be some wind to keep things moving so that you wont have to set to tight

Here is 24 hours on stand 2 the 5:12PM picture had plenty of shooting light , the pic is just dark because there is alot of canopy above. Unfortunityly....there is only one shot here if that deer in the top picture didn't stop before entering the trail mouth

O.K. ... I just went out and set up two cameras on stand #1. Both cover the hub so we will see tomorrow what 24 hours on this stand produces. I should have done this on stand #2 because I only used one there and I had a number of pics with nothing in them. I am very sure that a few of those pics were from deer that passed to quickly. I will re-set that stand later and we will see I will keep this up but will shut off the flash next time since anything that comes through at night isn't going to be a shot anyway

well, I will look into it some more. i belive if you are only hunting westchester you only need a big game tag and NOT a bow licence as well. we only have archery here. if that is the case we go to "plan B" which means that BT and I guide you down here is westchester. we will find a way for you guys.
