After studying the moon charts, I've come up with Nov.1st as the peak of the rut. The equinox this year landed on Sept.23rd. The closest full moon to the equinox actually was on the same day. A rare occurrence, but has happened before. This makes the full moon on Sept.23rd the "Harvest Moon." The next full moon, which is Oct.23rd is then known as the "Hunter's Moon." The last two times the equinox, and full moon fell on the same day, the peak rut happened 10 days after the Hunter's Moon. So, that's my guess.

I believe it will be Nov 5 or 6th if I had to take a guess. That is a New Moon I believe, and should send them scampering about wildly!

Our rut will be soon in our area already seeing the odd buck following the does, this is the earliest I've ever seen them doing it!

Just spend every minute you can in a tree the next three weeks then you'll know when it happens. That's my gameplan.

Bad plan for me ... all the farmers are busy getting their 30-06 double cam's sighted in ... bad thing about it is, they can't shoot straight! They also enjoy shooting deer, predators, or people before they really know what they're shooting at!

Oh man, nothing gets me more p$ssed off than guys that think it's ok to sight in their rifles during bow season!!! Don't these effers know they have all August to do that...I have a few numbnuts like that around here too.

I won't guess but normally in Ct I see Nov 8-13Th but this year I think will be early!!I hope so I'm not seeing much compared with last season.I have not seen many and none closer than 30-30 range.I hope Nov.1 is a start.Thats when Ct's free land owner starts. The mane rut might be cooling off by Ct gun season this year, leaving more for next year?

I rattled in my first deer of 2010 today. Rattled a light sequence...did a little grunting, then hit the horns pretty hard. As I was hanging up the horns, I could hear a deer running to me. Grabbed my bow and turned, and as the deer got into sight I saw about a 12 inch spike. Hung the bow up and just watched. Ended up a spike on one side, and 3 point on the other. Not a shooter, but nice to get a response to the antlers. Of course, I had him broadside in a lane at 25 yards....I'm sure that wouldn't have happened if it was a shooter.
