I am helping a friend that has more money than time. He owns a guide brokerage and is doing a bison hunt in Feb. He is using a 70 lbs. compound but wants me to make him some arrows and to select broadheads for him. I am leaning toward CX350 shafts with weight tubes. I want to make him a 700 grain arrow/head combo but am not sure what head to select. I am thinking about the Muzzy Phantom 220 Stainless steel but would like a longer, low profile head with a 3:1 aspect ratio. 2 bladed. More like a head that a trad guy would shoot. Any ideas?

No need to look any further than Silver Flames...strongest, sharpest, highest quality broadhead in the world...imho.

BTW: they are made up to 210 gr. On their site, it shows the new world record Cape Buff. taken with 180 grainer (an animal that most would agree is substantially tougher). As a bonus, the 180 gr. heads are in stock via the US dealer, according to the site. Best of luck...sounds exciting.

How about a screw-in Wensel Woodsman or Snuffers? Both 3 bladed.

The Interceptor 165gr. with a steel adaptor @ 45gr would give you 210gr. and the Interceptor is going to give a whole lot of penetration

Personally I would not look any farther than an Axis shaft with weight tubes. the tubes come in 3,5 and 8 grains per inch. the 340's with caom would be over 10gpi. the bonus is that the arrow is so slim it should penetrate better.
I would go with a 180grain Silver Flame. If you decide to use them and can't get any let me know.

what draw length is your friend? I have some axis 300's I could send you to see how the work.
I just realized that he would need the 300's not the 340's because of the heavy heads he'll be throwing.
what about your heads? they are sick. just put an adapter in them and see how they fly

We will try the heads I made. With a 42 grain adapter, they would be 212 grains. That however is a lot of pressure to put on me. After reading Dr. Ashby's report on extreme F.O.C. arrows and how they penetrate 20% better, Will will look at a heavy head and brass inserts and perhaps brass weight washers. A length of string trimmer line will add some weight without changing spine as well. Thanks for all the good input so far.

what arrows are you deciding on?
I'm not sure the CX 350's will be stiff enough at that weight and such a heavy head.........especially if the arrows are over 28".

I also wouldn't get too caught up in the 700grain thing. BT zipped right through a bison with a 300grain arrow and 60# BK(I believe those #'s are right)
