In Tennessee, we aren't required to take the Bowhunters Education Course but are required to take the hunters safety course if born after Jan. 1, 1969. The very last thing is a proficiency shoot with either a shotgun or a rifle or sometimes both. Depending on the instructor, if you don't pass this then you don't pass at all. I believe TN should require the bowhunter course as well as the hunter ed. as it is easier to wound an animal with a bow than a rifle in my opinion. I am with you 110%!!!

What I always get as the #1 argument against proficiency testing is the fact that it doesn't control the moral/ethical actions in the field. To which I say that regardless of that fact, you are handy capping those who would otherwise have those qualities who do not have the ability to shoot correctly. The last response was so flippant, I exploded in my reply...which I am sure put an end to further contact I am always frustrated at the fact that those who sit on top of the hill must be knocked off, because they are rarely persuaded.
