i've been hunting nearly all my life but this is my first year of serious bowhunting (i went out a few times last year with an old PSE but had no idea what i was doing) but so far this year i've had what in my mind is tremendous success. i've killed two does and a nice size spike with all of them only running 30 yds at most. i've been bowhunting all week in shenandoah county Va while muzzleloader season was in and had a great time but tomorrow rifle comes in and i'm taking the 30-06 with me but i'm not as excited as i used to be. i know i'll have a better chance at a nice buck but it's just not the same as my bow. it's all i think about anymore, i'm constantly studying and practicing and thanks to my good freind and bowhunting mentor "lockmaster" i've got a well tuned bow and alot of useful knowledge that would have taken me years to learn on my own. so now it seems like it's over and time to hang up the bow for a gun. does anyone else feel this way and do you still bowhunt while rifle is in?
sorry for the rambling, just feeling kinda down at a time that i'm usually very excited...................

I grew up in a gun shop and haven't hunted more than 2 years with a gun since taking my first deer with a bow at age 14. I couldn't pick up a gun to deer hunt anymore.....it's just more exciting with a bow I don't care about big bucks really....every deer I take with a bow is a real trophy to me but with a gun....it just doesn't hold the same feeling of accomplishment. Not saying gun hunting is a lesser sport ..... just not for me I hunt through all the seasons with numerous weapons but they all shoot arrows

I took my fifle for a walk opening day of rifle season - but had to agree with BT and I just wasn't into it. Took my bow for a walk the next weekend when I had a chance and got winded by 6 does. coulda shot the first two that walked past my stand - but passed. After that the wind changed and I was busted by all the rest. ;D
Gonna take my bow out for another walk thanksgiving weekend.

I will be bow hunting all year, went up north for the opener of muzzleloader early this year, but all the property I have permission to hunt is bow only. Would I take the shotgun if I could, yes, but I also havent had a bow kill yet, and only 1 with the shotgun. None the less, I will be out all weekend hoping that the gun guys might push me a deer .

An interesting thread I have switched to the 308 simply because I am down to the last week (last day now) to put some meat in the freezer tis season. When I was sitting watching a game trail across a small heath Wednesday night, all I could think of was where could I put a stand so that I could get a good bow shot at the deer that cross here I knew if one stepped out right now that it would be dead. With the bow, there is just so much more excitement and all the anticipation that goes with it I've come to the conclusion that I am hooked on bow hunting Only problem is that we get so few opportunities here and therefore getting good practical experience is difficult That's one of the things that makes me so thankful for BT, skip & ray and their hospitality What I learned there will definitely help me take my first deer with a bow. Unfortunately, I have to wait a year to do it

Unfortunately, I have to wait a year to do it I must echo what Hopesman says here...Me and SL switched last week to rifle only, since the odds are against us now...Today being Saturday may make you wonder why I'm not in the woods???Well, I am going to my daughters basketball game at 10:30 and after that, then SL and I can hit the woods. Besides, I sold my Bear Black Bear last week, since I got this new to me Browning Mirage. It's not set up yet, but once the season closes, I'll have time then.

I have been bow hunting since I was 14. It was a rough road at first since nobody in my family had ever bow hunted before. Deer season for me was slug week in Ohio. Boy, am I glad that I took up this sport of bow Hunting, I love it. I have seen more deer and killed bigger bucks than I would during slug week. Now I have three of my uncles,7 cousins and nephews bow hunting. So yes I bow hunt during gun season I see all the gun hunters deer pushers for me, they can't seem to sit still very long.
