Ray and I had the day off today 'cause a tornado of sorts destroyed everything down here. I still have no power. school was closed and we worked a few hours OT to clean up. we hit the water around 1pm. It was overcast and windy but we did see a lot of fish. we missed the few we got shots at. it was tough because with the clouds and the chop on the water, we couldn't see them until we were on them and they already knew we were there. Ray missed a MONSTER fish. 2 years ago I shot a 42.5" grass caro that weighed 37#'s. This fish today was a common carp and was a bit shorter but much thicker. It had to weigh over 40#'s........no joke. The rest were slightly above average, ranging around the 20-25# mark. we have not fished this area ever and it shows great promise........now we just need the right weather.

so last week I took my buddy Chris out. It was his first time bowfishing. He missed the first 10 shots or so and then hit the next 3. He also wanted to take out one of the many snapping turtles we have around. He found a decent size one that we could get close to and made a great shot as it swam away. I finally took my turn shooting on our way back and missed 3 shots.......oh well. I was just happy he got some shooting in. we went back out today and he brought our buddy David, who had never gone either. David was up first and started to get frustrated as he kept missing. He finally conected and brought in a nice fish. It was my turn at bat and I missed one and then took out the second, unfortunatly I didn't get a pic of my fish.... Time for chris to shoot. He missed a couple and then hammered a nice fish for himself. David was in the rear with a recurve and made a good shot on a fish from a pretty good distance, the fish somehow managed to flop off as we tried to boat it, but i count it as a hit. Anyway, it was a blast today and I can't wait to get back out there next week.

Awesome! I never even thought of taking a snapping turtle...what do you aim for, will the arrow pierce the shell?

Yup, the arrow will usually stick out the other side of the turtle. we see a bunch of them almost every time we fish. Many much bigger than that. The shells make a cool thing to have around and the turtles have no enemies and do a lot of damage on game fish and ducklings.
You gotta get down here man! we'll have a blast!

I am sure you told your buddies to aim low - or did you... Haven't done it in years but used to knock the heck out of carp at Ocean Lake, the Wind River and a couple of forks of the Popo Agie in Wy with a recurve. Guess I should find a place here in Az to go out. Used to cut the tails off, stick them in a jar in the sun so they got stinky and use them for bait trapping coons and skunks in HS.
