Oldfarmsblueman I have to agree with you. when you are set up like we are we need to shoot smart. I have said it before placement is the real issue and getting it wrong is not an option. Except, things DO go wrong at times. It's just part of hunting. Yes, we need to be responsible and practice, know our equipment, and make that shot count. On same hand, we have to prepare ourselves for the worst. One of the reasons why I'm interested in experimenting with Ashby's theories is the fact that this man is killing water buffalo with longbows that generate about 10lbs less KE than my 82nd. He's busting through 3/4" inch ribs and splitting the scapulas of stallion zebras. I hit a young buck in the scap last October and was lucky to get 4" of penetration I didn't even get that much penetration with the Innerlock two blades but I can also go away knowing that the deer is alive and well but if I ever get it right and I will, I think I have potential for a pass through. I also hear what you are saying and those mistakes will never completely go away. I hope to get my bow off to BT within the next two weeks so he can set up the bow I will be using.

Keep in mind that the arrow flight was off stilllearning That arrow may have made it through if it were shooting straight before hand. If you look at the way the head/insert blew out of the shaft, it's pretty evident that the arrow took more out of the impact than the scapula. (I should have just insisted on fixing it the moment I saw it, instead of letting myself be talked out of it) Flight tuning with a fixed broadheads is the only way to assure that flight is perfect and therefore, penetration will be at a maximum.

My Grizzlies and weight tubes came in. I do like the look of those broadheads But, I've run into a slight snag...The weight tubes are throwing off the FOC. Without the tubes, I'm at 19%, with tubes 13.5%. So, it's back to the drawing board in creating a true "Ashby Approved" arrow.

Another order placed...3gpp and 5gpp weight tubes, a "test kit" of field points ranging from 125gr-250gr, 100grain steel broadhead adapters, and 100 grain brass inserts for Axis arrows. I might have to bump up to a 340 spine to make the weight, FOC, spine requirements. But I'll experiment with the 400 shafts first.

Doegirl - Have you tried the weight screws at all? Gold Tip makes them to screw on to the end of the tip - or to the end of an insert. They come in 10, 20, and 50 grains. I tend to use the 20 grain weight screws on the end of the insert so I can keep my FOC while shooting 100 grain tips. I know there are others of this type around, these are fairly cheap at less then $7/dozen from these guys... You'd have to check your shaft inner diameter to make sure that they will fit since you are not shooting Gold Tip arrows. I put them on with a spot of epoxy in the threads to make sure they don't come off. Heat and pliers to take them off again - as you might want to for broken arrows. www.yeoldearcheryshoppe.com/gold-weight-screws-p-559.html?osCsid=c5d136154be29bc0324669c30f4e8f0a

Nothing to tell Stilllearning. The bow is ready and waiting to be armed.
