I shot vertical bows for 43yrs then suffered a crippling hand injury which prevents me from holding a bow. Had to go to a cross bow to keep hunting and shooting. I started with a Horton and recently upgraded to a TenPoint ProFusion and a Excalibur Phoenix. Been experimenting with arrows trying to find the best all around arrow. So far test are inconclusive

This was my first season using a bow of any kind. Tennessee legalized Xbows a few years ago and bow season comes in 2 months before gun season. After lots of reading, I got an Excalibur Vortex and am beyond pleased with it. Took 2 deer this year, one buck, one doe. I may just stick with the Xbow and rest the ole 270.

I'mm trying to maintain a 24-26% F.O.C with all the arrows that I am testing. Right now I am staying with 4" straight fletched vanes and flat aluminum nocks. My goal is the best accuracy with sufficient penetration and durability.
My process is to eliminate as many variables as possible. The O.D of carbon shafts varies from manufacturer to Manufacturer as does the wall thickness. That makes finding brass inserts a problem. Also finding different weight brass inserts is a problem. I'm trying to stay away from using brass washers for weight. Today I shot XX75's with a 110gr brass insert. Peneration is awesome, accuracy is sufficient for large game but not as good as I want. Total arrow weight with insert, aluminum flat nock and 4" vanes 480grs. Add in 100gr target tip or BH and it's a real heavy arrow! I can't shoot any farther than 15yds until weather changes and snow is gone so that hurts my testing

You are right, that is a very heavy arrow. I am interested in experimenting with fletching to see if some right spin will improve accuracy. Here in Illinois I will only be hunting white-tails. I have taken 10 deer in two years and pentration was not a problem. All were pass throughs except for one spine hit.

BT, how durable are quickspins, crossbows can be real hard on fletching. I was planning on trying 2" blazers.

They are pretty darn rugged IMO and should (should) stand up well for a time. I know what your saying about being rough

I know what your saying about being rough Haven't tried the Nap quick spins, but from what I've read on many forums, the 2" Blazers are cheaper and do not require the specific hand offset of the Quick Spins. I went through the same thing as "DaGriz" a few years ago and settled on GT Lazar II's w/ either 4" dura vanes or 2" Blazers, brass inserts and 100 gr points, 431 gr total weight. These will hit a poker chip off a rest out to 40 yds w/ my Phoenix, are the arrow Danny Miller, USA warranty rep for Excal advises and interestingly are w/ in a few grains of the 10 pt Elite arrow. Good enough for me, lol, now I can spend my money on hunts!! Should add, I use an AZ E-Z, rt hand helical, about 8 degrees.
