We are coming to the end of the bow only season and some would say keep going with the bow and some would say take out the rifle and take one. I am in a one tag area and I have a buck only tag. Assuming it is legal what would you think of some one carrying to there spot a rifle and a bow? If the buck comes in close enough take it with the bow and if he comes out 200 yards away and won't come any closer, pick up the rifle and put meat in the freezer? I really would like to have your opinion.

I'm going all bow this yr. I lost the thrill of the gun kill. For me it's bow or nothing

Stilllearning,
Early in my hunting career I hunted with both bow (recurve) and gun(shotgun). I took my first 2 deer with the gun. But after I got my first bowkill, I got the bug. I have taken 60 deer with the bow, and 4 with the gun. I truly enjoy the challenge of bowhunting, and as I have stated before, I like the "closeness" of hunting with the bow. It just is so exciting, and really gets your blood pumping.
That being said, you can get a similar feeling with the gun as long as you don't take the first 200 yd shot that presents itself. Let them get closer, and I believe that you will enjoy it much more. The 4 deer that I have taken with the gun were at 18, 25, 40, and 45 yds. I hunted them as if I was bowhunting, but gave myself that bit of an advantage so I could put meat in the freezer.

That's the whole thing right? putting meat in the freezer. competition is great, season is too short! sometimes you got to take an advantage to score....we want to score, right SL.??

Meat is my goal. I prefer to do it with a bow but it just isn't happening.

if you're having fun, who care what you use? I personally think that many times we all get caught up in "our" season being better. I love bowhunting and that is what I choose to do. I have never gun hunted for deer. I will be bowhunting for 5 days in IL and gun hunting for 3. I'd prefer to bow hunt all of it, but that isn't an option. I have a sneaky feeling that I'm still gonna get the shakes when Mr. McfreakNasty shows up, even with the smoke pole in my hand. As long as it's legal who cares if you use an Atlatl or a sniper rifle, just as long as it gets you pumped.

Well I preffer to use my bow and I will take them both with me starting on Sunday. I am not much for guns, anyone can shoot a Buck or Doe at 100yrs, but let me see you get close enough to get one with a bow. I can use my bow durring Gun season for the next 6 weeks, but I have to wear Orange and obide by the gun season laws. But other wise I am gona carry both you never know when that Buck or Bull is gona just hang out of bow range and would be an easy shoot with a rifile. I did shoot a sm forkin horn buck last yr with my rifile, but it didnt compair at all to the thrill I got this yr harvesting a Doe with my bow. I dont think it really matters what ya hunt with ,just as long as ya have fun and are SAFE

I hunt with the bow, shotgun, and muzzleloader. I am slowly coming to like gun hunting less and less. The problem here in CT is that most areas you can't bowhunt during gun season. The bottom line, is I love to hunt, be it with gun or bow.

I am waiting on confirmation but it looks like there is no reason that I can not take both the bow and the rifle to my blind. I may just do this.
