Hmmm.... I was right there in your shoes years ago when I lived in Maine I feel your pain but I think you have a good game plan I personally would go till the last 2 weeks of gun season and then just go gun all the way considering that you are meat hunting. That being said....I am not you Your plan is solid and gets you the best of both worlds Take them both and good luck

Here in FL. we have a long season and can legally kill something over 200 bucks per year. That makes it hard for me to relate to your dilemma. However I have hunted Ohio where its only one buck. I killed a big 12 point with a shotgun and instead of being overjoyed, all I could think was " boy, I wish I would have killed him with a bow" I don't plan on ever leaving the state of FL. with a gun again. Bow only for me. On the other hand, deer meat in the freezer is a mighty good thing.

200!? I'm moving to Fl.! Who cares about hurricanes, it's only a little rain, right!? Man, I thought I had a generous bag limit with 6! All the reasons everyone stated for using a bow I have repeated in my head and heart. I enjoy the thrill of being 15 yds or less from my quarry. That's all part of this insane game called bowhunting. It is truly a joy to witness the beauty of God's creations up close and personal. I have to carry a gun at work on occasion and well, it's work. I enjoy shooting a bow... it's my passion and hobby.

I see that Montana Fish and Game are thinking about implementing an 'either/or' for their season. Hunters may have to choose between bow or firearm. From NRA update: Montana Big Game Hunting Options to be Eliminated? Tomorrow, October 19, the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission will be taking public comment on a measure of critical importance to all hunters in the state. A proposal to require all of the states big game hunters to choose between either a bow or a firearm for the entire hunting season will be taken up during an afternoon Work Session. To be clear, this will mean that hunters will no longer have the option of pursuing big game with both a bow and a rifle during the same calendar year. www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?ID=2467

A revenue generator The manufacturers show up and pay off the politicians to leave it as is. The public turns out to debate and the vote goes to the manufactures that paid. In this manner the money gets pocketed and the officials get to say that they simply followed the wishes of the public ;D What a racket! Or am I just jaded

Where in FL are you hunting? Though I moved to Mobile, AL two years ago, I still do a lot of hunting in FL when I am home for the holidays. The place we hunt is a lease off of highway 20 and highway 77 just north of Panama City. We've seen some MONSTERS taken out of there and some bucks going 200lbs. So big deer can be found in FL, but chances are you'll have to hunt in the swamps to get them. Of course some would argue we're not hunting FL up here, but rather lower Alabama.
One thing about our property in FL, you'll see 20 does to a buck that's for sure. With them only having a week long doe week and then outside of that maybe only getting one doe tag (of which many old salts will never use no matter what mountain of info you put in front of them); bucks are few and far between. Until the rut, the chances of seeing a buck where we are is about impossible bc they have no reason to come out of the extremely thick stuff during daylight hours and unless you like playing with moccasins and razor type brush, they are pretty darn invincible. Especially bc there's always food all over the place bc it doesn't get cold enough to really wipe out everything.

Well it is now confirmed I can carry both the bow and the rifle to my stand if I want to.
