I am a meat hunter 1st and a trophy hunter 2nd. I dont care if it is a bull, buck cow or Doe. I still havent shoot an Elk with my bow yet been close to a few but things wernt right got winded a few times and to far a few other times. But any Elk 4x4 ,5x5 is a trophy to me, so If I see a small raghorn bull this yr like a 4x4 with legal browtimes over 6" I am hopefully gona get a shoot. I did draw a Doe tag for rifile season though so maybe 2 deer this yr and 1 bull or cow Elk in my freezer ,not counting on what Mrs Elk does for deer.

My opinion is every animal I have killed, yes killed not "harvested", has been a trophy to me. Each one is different and each one has a different story. The last one I took was a smallish 5 point but it was the last one I took when my Dad was with me. The following April he was diagnosed with cancer and died that same December. That is probably the one I will remeber most. I have been an invited guest on a few hunting leases where I was told stay here until we come back to get you. The deer came out like cattle. Hunting or shooting? I feel the deer I have taken off of public land have been My trophies regardless of size. I guess "trophy" is in the eye of the beholder. Yes I eat every bit I can scrape off them bones. Thanks for stiring the pot.

one of my best trophies was helping my father get on his "first" buck. He had never taken one larger than a button buck before this. We hung a stand and I busted his chops to actually go out and use it. He killed a nice 5pt. Man he was excited, I'll never forget that. And yes, here we kill deer too and harvest our garden.

I go for the meat due to an over abundance of doe in our area and the need to thin out the herd outways some of the need for trophy kill.

Where in Fla. ? I used to hunt the 3lakes area out by yeehaw junction Dixie county. I belong to a club with about 20000 acres and also hunt a Federal Wildlife Refuge of about 60000 acres. Lots of little scrawny deer. A big mature buck will go 110.lbs. Taste great AND less filling

I hunt to first off just be out with nature,,I do hope that it pays off for food for my family, though I do always want a trophy,, but herd population and deer management are key.I have a few good deer with my boy,, I always will want bigger but st times,,thats not what it means for me.I can shoot a hog if my family were to starve,,Ican shoot a deer and I cant eat the antlers, but that said does tatse good. The county I hunt in has been 2 does and a buck in bow season,,I usually get my does right off,,lots here and the count just does'nt seem right but I am not a bioligist..I just love hunting whether I shoot or not,, the thrill really is in being outdoors
