I'm leaving Friday morning for my first trip to Canada and my first bear hunt with a longbow! I'm pumped. It's an all traditional hunt and will be about 10 of us in camp. Most guys on this trip average seeing 5 or more bears an afternoon on the bait. The baits average about 5 yards from the stands and the stands are low enough to reach up and touch. It should be up close and personal! I'll be hunting Saturday through Saturday. The bears here are not huge, maybe 150 average. Every year someone takes one pushing 300#'s and 2 years ago Barry Wensel hit a bear in the shoulder that he said was the biggest he had ever seen anywhere. The trail cam didn't even get all if him in frame. I'm not looking for any "trophy", I just want to have a fun hunt and share camp with like minded people.

Good luck Greg. Nothing like being up close and personal with a bear......sticking one in the vitals is even better!! I've had a lot of them on trail cam, but have not had one come in for a shot yet. My Son-in-law "hit" a really nice one season before last with the bow but it was a glancing shot and non 'fatal to the bear. He estimate the bear to be about 400#...we had him on trail cam NUMEROUS times before season!

Thanks guys. Heading out in the morning to pick up a few guys at the airport, then to MA to meet up with the others. Leaving MA around 5pm and drive 10 hours to camp. Catch a nap and hit the woods. Looks like we are in for a bunch of rain until Wednesday/ Hopefully not a complete wash out. I know the bears will still feed in the rain, but I won't be able to film. I am bringing the Blind if the rain is too bad, a tree umbrella if not and I will be using a string tracker, because they are tough enough to blood trail in dry weather
