Anyone doing anything towards that end now-a-days?. We are in a real fix as we are looking to move and on top of that, we are not even sure where yet I am almost ready to start scouting and clearing shooting lanes just to do it. This is a bad time for us and the upcoming season. Lets hear it... I may even have something to add pretty soon because I really am ready to just do it for the sake of doing it ;D Of course... We would be set if/when we came back to the area given that we were not gone too long. Anyone want to hunt N.E. Ohio?, we have some very good set ups that we would be willing to share.

You know, forgive me, but that is a funny thing to ask this year... We just got another foot of snow up where I hunt... I think it is snowing up high today, rain down here. We had up to a half foot of snow on the archery range last weekend during the work days. Yeah, even if you went up to scout, there probably wouldn't be any animals there yet! They'd all be down at the melt line...

I'm always scouting. Either for new properties or my current ones while I'm out hiking and turkey hunting right now.

Got word today that a buddy of mine had just been given permission for both of us to hunt and trap 80 acres that backs up to a country club. The property is in the same town that I do most of my hunting. The guy has huge coy ponds that are over run with otter and next season would like us to remove a few fir him. He's also got plenty of coyotes, fox and coons we can go after. The deer numbers are high and its a known area for big bucks. My buddy scouted it today and saw plenty of turkey sign and heard a few gobbles. We are planning to try and get out Sunday morning and see what we can do. If the birds aren't cooperating we'll just scout for deer.
A few other guys have permission to deer hunt it, but the owner wants to know when your coming and he said the other guys can't be bothered with that. So only 2 guys hunted there this year for a total of 5 days or so and took one deer. 5 days in a 3 month season isn't much competition. We're pumped and don't mind maki g a phone call to let him know when we'll be there.

You always fall into these dream scenarios! Hard to believe that a phone call would be such an imposition for anyone to have to make... I always call unless told not to. I dont want someone not knowing I am there when I am hunting someone else's property. I would be trapping those Otter out of there around November if it were up to me Those are still bringing a good dollar.

Yeah, the trapping will be done next season when the fur is prime. I do happen to fall into quite a few of these good spots. As far as calling, it is a bit of a pain. I usually don't know what stand I'm going to hunt, until I wake up that morning. Lol. If the landowner asks for notice, I usually just say that I'm going to try and come by. That works for most. It's worth it. Most of our landowners have no idea we've been hunting. We keep it discreet and that works fine for them. The program involving the county parks here is a call in/out deal as well as pin in and out on a map. Lots of guys leave because they can't handle that. How stupid.
