I love guiding as much as hunting myself. This is the 4th person I have taken out for their first bird and the fourth person to get their first bird. Most times in just a morning or two. It was a blast and he got to see a "hot" day and a quiet day. Not to mention shots both days. I have no idea what it weighed. I have never actually weighed one before. It wasn't huge by any means, it was a jake and all. That's not what matters to either of us though. Not sure when I'll get out, but I'm up next and after that he'll be using a self bow and stone point for a try at a second bird.
Looking forward to the blow by blow on these days out. Your living the dream my man!
I'll keep you all posted. Thinking I may do a bit of run and gun with the longbow on some public land tomorrow instead of dragging chairs and blinds and such out with me. It'll be really tough but it should be fun.
Opening day in NY tomorrow. Setting up the DB tonight. Spitfires are ready to fly.
O.K. Big guy... where are they?.
Four day's of hard hunting, nothin' on the ground. Called birds in but not close enough. One wouldn't come over the ridge, I could hear him walking in the leaves but I never saw him. Another bird walked around me and got shot by another hunter. Birds are gobbling in the morning and then shutting up after 8'ish. Lot's of birds and I have a month..gotta keep swinging : )

Sounds like it is only a matter of time Good Luck!

Finally over bronchitis enough to hunt. I'll be heading out tomorrow with my buddy who killed the jake. We will be hunting the new property he just got permission on. He really wants to take a bird with one of his self bows, so I'll be packing the compound. If birds come all the way in, he'll get the first shot. If they hang up a bit ill take the shot.
