We called in 4 jakes off the roost and had 2 toms roosted just behind us. I brought the jakes into under 3 yards just after daybreak. My buddy got so excited that he shot through the breast feathers of one of the strutting birds. He didn't even remember seeing his pin. Lol. I know the feeling. I stopped them as they were leaving and whiffed myself at 20 yards with the longbow. I was about 3" too high and just managed to knock a few feathers off his back and tangle him for a minute in my string tracker. The stayed around at 50 yards for another hour gobbling and strutting. The toms finally flew down and headed our way but the jakes attacked them and it was a fight for the ages. I never have seen feathers fly like that. They ran them right out if the county! Oh well, it was exciting and there is always tomorrow!

So, we went out this morning and set up in the strutting zone the birds used yesterday. We had one bird gobble a few times on the roost but it was silent after flydown. We just quietly B.S'ed in the blind and I tried to teach him everything I have learned over the years about turkey hunting. One thing I explained was that sometimes they come in quiet. We weren't hearing anything and decided to pack up at 7:45 so he could be at work by 9:00. At 7:30 a jake popped up over the ridge and headed right for our decoys without making a sound. He closed to 20 yards and I was ready. He looked like he was fully committed to our decoys and I prepared for a shot. At 20 yds he started strutting and worked his way back out to 30yds. After a few minutes it appeared he might be getting ready to leave. I put my bow down and told Justin to take the shot. I told him to wait until he got centered in the clearing and then talked him through the whole shot. It was perfect and we watched his first turkey go down. The spitfire I gave him this morning worked like a charm. After getting the bird and heading back to the blind we looked at the time and it was 7:45. Perfect timing! What an amazing morning in the woods. I had a better time than if I took the bird myself!

Outstanding!. You should start a guide service because you certainly have the skills for it... as evidenced above What do you think that bird weighed?. Great Picture by the way.
