Well, I have my first bear hunt coming up in June. It's an all traditional archery gear hunt. The stands are low and the baits are close and the success rate is through the roof. To say I'm pumped is an under statement. I wanted to get a target to prepare me for this hunt. I was looking at 3D bear targets and I just can't justify buying one at this point. I was cleaning up the yard today and had an idea. I am going to cut a bears outline out of a section of plywood I have laying around. I will then cut out the vital area. For now I plan on putting cardboard over the hole(until I get a piece of high density foam I have up in VT). I will paint the whole bear and vital area black, so I don't have a "target" to aim at. I should help replicate the real thing. Now if I miss the vitals, I will probably lose a field point, but it sure beats making that shot on the real thing and losing a bear. I'll post more as I build it tomorrow or the next day. A outline drawn freehand but to the size of an average bear(according to online research) The bear outline cut out. The vitals based on numerous pictures I found online, are cut out

It came out pretty good. Of course you can see the cut out vitals, but it should still be better practice than just shooting spots. Here is a view from my tree stand

Lol. I noticed that too. It's actually my barrel for bucking solution and is always there.

Nice. I like it!!. I do have a question, about how big of an area did you account for the vitals? I'm nervous because I tend to crowd the shoulder but I don't want to come back too far. Looks great and good luck again.

I forget the actual measurement. I'll look when I get home.
