Just picked up a bunch of CX 200's on clearance at BassPro. In the process of ripping off the 4 inch vanes to refletch. I plan on using 75-85grain broadheads, like Boss Bullets, 85grain Spitfires, Jackhammers, or Rocket Wolverines. I plan on refletching with 3" feathers. Given the choice of broadheads above, is it wise for me to fletch with 3 3" feathers or quit being lazy and fletch 4 3" feathers?

I have done both and for myself don't see any differance. The feathers are very lite but I seem to always go back to the 2" Blazers.I also am shooting 75 and 85 gr.

Doegirl, if you fletch your own, play around with the variations if you can. I've found different ones work better than others with relation to your specific set up. I like four 60X120 5 inch fletch for my trad setup and three 4 inch vanes for my compound. My local archery shop lets me by feathers "by-the-feather" which makes it easier to try them out. One thing is for sure though, you'll never nock a 4 fletched arrow wrong when the pressure is on. I'd fletch up a couple of each and see what you think.

I think you would like 4 feathers straight unless you are shooting in the wind - the razyrs I shot last year did great in 3-d and hunting untill I went antelope hunting - then the arrows didn't track as well in the wind. Up untill that point groups were tighter and poi was higher at 40 yards + agreed on getting just a few to test - that is the best way

If I was deadset on using only mechanicals, then I wouldn't bother. But I would like to be able to stablize small fixed blades like 85gr Stingers, Boss Bullets, and 85 Montecs as well. Edit: the 3 feathers idea was short lived. The fixed blade heads were acting a little squirrely. Mind you I tested the Silverflame, not a sub 100grain head, but I knew it would challenge those feathers. Another feather is needed...

I would stay 4 fletch with 4 vanes but thats just me Honestly....I have never seen better performance out of any other pattern or vane than I have achieved to date with 4 feathers in straight or slight offset.

I like 4 feather fletch on the trad side - 5 inches long, too. I don't even play with other combinations anymore. For the compound, three plastic fletch all the way. Depending on FOC, I go with either 4 inch or 3 inch fletchings. (I like to hits things on windy days...) As to feathers and fast compounds - I gave up on feathers. I find plastic more quiet, more durable, and I don't have to worry about wet days. Other folks have different experiences with them to be sure! My buddy Kevin loves feathers. I think he'd fletch feathers on his wife if she'd let him... But I digress...
Fletch three arrows of each flavor - fletch length and materials. (So you could have more than just 6 arrows.) See what you think at the end of a month and rip off the ones you like the least.
