Flemish string nightmare

I am about ready to drive to Indiana... Grab Brandon Smith right by his neck and ....

I bought this DVD (building a flemish string) from 3Rivers and the jig (wanted to try it) to build a Flemish string... What a rip!.

I am sure brandon knows what he is doing and I am sure that he was doing a good job of showing someone who knows how to build a Flemish string...How to build a Flemish string BUT...
For someone who does not... Ughhhhh!

The camera work is very good except when you need the big picture... then the camera zooms in and cuts out just what you need to see in order to know just what is going on when making the loop.

I did this something like 10 times (just as shown) and the string pulls apart with almost no weight on it.
This is frustrating to say the least.

Just following the instruction it is pretty easy to see that it cannot work... which means something is missing or I cant see something (due to the camera) that I need to see.

The advertising is done very well and the shop is pimped (in the DVD) in a way that would make Don King blush but beyond that... very poor.

On top of not seeing what I need to see... there are two Flemish designs... 2 and 3 piece.
The three piece is the only one worth knowing and it's not on this DVD

There also is no sections, so if you try and back into the DVD to see a step... too bad!. All the way back to the beginning
Another 5 minutes of advertising, another 5 minutes of talk and then 5 minutes of instruction on a 20 minute process (if your a beginner) with poor camera work

One mistake on a flemish twist string and it comes apart really easy! I've not seen the DVD, so can't comment on it, but to do a good flemish - meaning one you can use - it has to be right!

Yup... And doing it the way they show, it is crap. That is to say that they don't show it... as a novice would need to see it. The whole DVD took 20 minutes and 5 of that was making the string. It sucked!

Reading on trad gang... Using a timber hitch on the bottom loop.

No mention of this on the DVD and in fact... they never mention the bottom loop except to say make it the same as the top.... and then they move onto the center serving.

Kind of an important thing to forget to include in the DVD wouldn't you say?.

Unfortunately the trad gang photo layout wasn't able to show what I assume I am missing or the DVD instructor over explained the finish of the top loop.
The DVD says wrap the remaining string (after the loop is formed) around the main body in the same way that the loop was wrapped. Now I know that's not right because there is no twist when done this way and adding the twist on top of that looks awful... like no string I have ever seen before.

I am pretty hot right now... I will say that much!

Thought having a DVD would be better than a book...HA!

Finally figured it out. They did leave out plenty.
Got to get some more string now.... But I got it

Got the B-50 I needed and made up the first one. Not to hard when you know what to do
The first one went on one of the 25# Bows and held fine but I am not confident enough to make one up for the heavier bows just yet. A few more times and I think I will be confident enough to do just that though.

Never made my own string but about 5 years ago smj sent me a few he made and they still work great thank you. It is good to have such a great friend. !!!Thanks again
