I have been thinking a lot about this lately, and although I have caught some flak from friends who are traditional "elitists". I am going with a compound, at least for the first part of my season.
After having a shoulder injury a couple years ago, and still not being 100%, on top of being in Iraq for the last year, I am not confident enough to take a trad bow out and ensure a clean kill.
I have thought a bout this decision for a long time, and I feel that it is the ethical thing to do, until I get back into practice with my trad bows. As I said, I am getting some flak from some friends, but its hard to tell sometimes if its friendly banter, or if they really think I shouldnt use a compound. Personally, I would rather use a compound than not hunt at all, because I wont if I'm not 100% sure I can make a clean kill.
I do however, have one friend who supports me 100%...to the point that I wont even have to buy any gear, as he owns a bow shop, and has demo bows from Mathews and some others that are outdated models. He said he cant sell them, because they were demo bows from the company, but he can let me "demo" any one, any time I want... He even has a brand new climber for me to "demo", waiting at the shop. You really cant beat having friends like that.

Your definitely making the right choice I know some people won't agree with this statement but we are all bowhunters no matter what archery equipment we chose to use.

I've shot Trad pretty much my entire life and I'm using wheels this year just for something different. Don't worry about the elitist's. A

Good grief dude!...screw anyone who gets serious about busting your balls. If it's light hearted...laugh along..they are just being guys But if it's serious...screw 'em I can kill a deer with any bow...so whatever bow I happen to be using doesn't reflect on anything but my ability to use that bow. Same with you. I know you ad you know you and we know that dicks are gonna be dicks

Very true... Im using a compound no matter what they say, at least for the first part. I believe its the ethical decision if I am going to bowhunt this year (and I AM!!).. It just gets irritating when dealing with the elitist crowd... I gotta get home and find better friends!!!
