Hunting from a blind SUCKS!!! I don't think I'll be doing that again. It's to limiting for the way I like to hunt.I'm sure it will work in the right place at the right time.I'm going back UP in a tree fresh air with a view . Next is my new Scent-lok coveralls. They have great pockets that I like.Being 150 pounds I got a large so I can put winter cloths under it.If my nuts hung down 12 inches they would still not hit the crotch ;D Have to make sure I don't trip in them. It's still very thick on Sept 15th can't see much And last lesson of the day the new farm I just picked up is so big I feel like I'm out in the ocean in a row boat trying to catch a fish that I have no clew as to where they are. I was in my blind by 5:30 and it was light enough for a shot a little before six.I was out of the blind at 8:00 and scouting along the edge of the corn field. It seems the deer walk the edges plus any where else they want. It's like look- ing for a needle in a hay stack.I did find lots of coyote crap and think one was a white cat(the one pictured on the telephone poles up and down the street) ;D Also I think raccoons and some leg bones from a small deer. I took down my blind and will be in a tree next time out I also had forgotten what a pain in the butt Thistles are I have bene picking them off for two days.

Yeah, OFB, I used to hunt from a ground blind, but have seen the light of hanging from a tree as well. Turkeys from the ground is one thing, but deer are quite another.

I got a ground blind to hunt with my son this season. I have a couple places perfect for one but like you said the view is horrible. I rather be safe with my boy than site seeing. I will post my results as my season has not started yet.

Sounds like you needed one of those 360 blinds

Every year for me, at the end of opening day it's always the same lesson.........I should have done more scouting!... and this year I haven't done any due to work and health, and for the next two weeks I'll be so busy I won't be able to get out at all........bummer.... and as far as my shooting goes, I can stick 3 out of 12 in the kill at 20yds......... so I figure I'll just take those three arrows............lol,lol, just kidding fellas! oh and oldfarm, look in the bright side, just give it a few more years, those danglies will reach just fine and you won't have to scratch any more.....

I hunt from the ground exclusively do to a back injury and I have 6' piece of camo cloth I keep in my pack to use when I need it depending on my setup. It is light and portable. just the ticket for me.

And another thing I've learned, but it really doesn't apply to just opening day..........Fill your vehicle up with fuel the night before the hunt, gasoline vapor and stepping through an errant spill at the station can ruin a hunt.......

I read about a guy that hunted in farm country. He used diesel fuel for a cover scent .I think in some places it might work.Diesel smell is the one smell I remember from Vietnam It's all you smelled.Every thing used it.
