Well the new tagging rules are now in effect and posted on the DEP Website.: www.ct.gov/dep/cwp/view.asp?a=2700&q=323414&depNav_GID=1633Bob Tagging and Reporting of Deer and Turkey The regulations concerning the tagging and reporting of deer and turkeys harvested by hunters have undergone significant changes. The new regulations are designed to make the purchase of deer and turkey permits more convenient for sportsmen, save money on the printing and distribution of permits and tags, and to improve the methods of monitoring the harvest of deer and turkeys. One of the most significant changes is that the department has done away with the Tyvek tags that used to come with deer and turkey hunting permits. Instead, hunters are now required to use newly designed Kill Tags (pdf) to record information about deer or turkeys they kill. (more info)

This change is custom made for the poacher.Print your tags yourself.Shoot your deer.Fill out your tag.Put deer in car or truck.Drive home.If you get stoped you are leagle. Put deer in garage.Don't call it in .Through out tag, print anouther tag and go get anouther.Any one who butchers their own deer will have a field day.The guy that is honest or needs to take it to a butcher will have to go by the book. Around here I would say most deer get butchered at home. JMO

Another thing with this great new system is the licence.I got mine at the town hall.I put them in the little plastic folder they give you.I took them out last week to get the number and could hardly read them. They were on the cheep receipt type paper. It fades very fast.I tried to print replacements at home but had problems.I ended calling the DEP and they had two different numbers for me .They made the corrections and I printed new ones at home on real paper with real ink.

Sounds like CT is trying to keep up with NY in terms of doing their jobs. ;D So is Ohio Next year the rules change here and you can call your kill in and in Ohio you can print your license at home. So as I see it the poachers can: Print their license Print their deer permit (copy, copy, copy) Make their own bag limit All in the purpose of making it easier for the hunter (poacher )

WE are missing one point here guys poachers take game illegally with or without a tag. We have a similar system in Ky for several years we buy our tags they have to be marked before you move the animal then within 24 hours you call it in. I have spent 5 days in camp killing a deer on the first day and never leave camp. We just call our deer in and they are perfectly legal. The poachers are going to cheat no matter what that's my experience. Just my .02
