It's Sept 15 for us in CT. I have everything just about
ready to go Except for the most important thing
MY HEAD ;D.To play it safe I will hunt a new place and
use my blind.I found a spot back in by a barbed wire
fence that has waste high weeds on two sides and brush
behind and on my left. The woods are behind me and two
corn fields in front, with a 50 yard strip of hay field between.
The corn field on the left is about 12 acres and the one
on my right about 4.There are tracks where they travel
between the corn and the wooded fence line then cross
into the woods.I have no clue if they do this at night or
in the day.I also don't know if other hunters might be on
the other side. From what I have found out most hunt after
work.If I get a shot it will be very close.I also found out
there are about 700 acres I can hunt but will not hunt to
many days on it because I don't know it for one and there
are many others that hunt it.I will do my scouting in late
winter early spring. The main point of this thread was getting
mentally ready.I am not 100% tuned in so don't want to
go to my honey holes untill I am 100% ready. It takes me a
few trips to get a good routine.I will eather forget somthing
or have to much.Once I get it all together I leave all my
things in my back pack and can plan most hunts.
The one thing I like about this spot is I found 4 places where
a BIG deer took a crap on the woods side of the barbed wire
before crossing into the corn. Also very big tracks but both are
a few weeks old. With my other privet hunting areas I can
hit them later hoping some deer try to find a safe place to hide
like right under my tree stand. ;D This year I have acess to a
walk in cooler so that helps take some of the pressure off.
