I know this has been brought up many times before, but, last year I killed my best buck 4 days before the full moon in November. We had a lot of deer activity the entire week leading up to the full moon. Last year the full moon in November was on the 13th, this year it's on the 4th. What do you all think about the full moon. Will it have an effect on the deer that early in November. Will the best week be the last week of October? I know a lot of you have bow hunted a lot longer that I have. What experience do you all have with the full moon. I have always herd that deer, (Bucks) will move during the middle of the day with a full moon. Last year that proved to be true. I missed the buck I eventually took 7 days before the full moon at 11:20 am. I killed him 4 days before the full moon at 10:30 am. And we saw several smaller buck moving during the middle of the day all that week.

During a full moon I have seen more deer activity during mid day than any other moon phase. I have found with a full moon deer don't like to feed at night because they are easily seen by predittors.....ie, coyotes and me . With that they feed and chase does during the day light hours when they can use all their senses better IMHO. I killed my biggest buck ever during the full moon phase at 2:30 p.m. chasing does. During the last week in October I would sit in the stand all day if possible.

Interesting Coyote predation is not as big an issue here as it would be back east. Wolves have become a new and different issue though... the wolf depradation has really changed deer herd sizes, locations, and habits. Most deer are found down in the low elevation around people now. Their feeding habits during the full moon may well have changed recently Historically for us the first week of Nov. has snow on the ground or at least frozen ground and forage is beginning to get hard to find, not to mention the temps are really dropping. I think those two factors influence the deer a lot ... they are really on the move at night around here in a full moon - and during early morn, early evening don't tend to move as much. Never really thought about their midday patterns affected by the moon though ... will have to pay attention better.

I do set in a stand all day. I have a friend that hunts with me and he has trouble staying all day. But those 2 weeks are what bow hunters live for. And you can't kill'em if your not there. I agree there are days it's tough to set all day especially if your not seeing much, but the thought of a good buck showing up 5 minutes after I'm gone, that is want keeps me there. There may come a day when I can't stay all day, but till that day comes, I will be there daylight to dark.
