I love the Slick Trick Ferrules.....spectacular design and very strong!. I would rather that they carried the older blades which had better edge retention....but as long as you are getting those heads all the way through the lungs.
Tell me more about the Bow!

The bow was made by Pearson. It was their Pro Shop only bow. I don't think they make McPherson any more. But it's a great bow. Short axle to axle, light weight. Perfect for tree stand hunting. My first bow was a Reflex. I used to fish a lot, from 93-99 I was a full time guide and tournament angler. That took up all of my time to hunt. When I gave that up I wanted to take up bow hunting but I wasn't sure how much I would do or if I would like it enough to stick with it. So I went to Bass Pro and bought a package Reflex. I used that bow 6 years and killed several deer with it. One morning before daylight I climbed in my stand and tried to knock an arrow, and couldn't figure out why my arrow was wouldn't knock right. Well the string had broke. So I went to the bow shop later that day and was going to have a string put on. As Jim was looking for a string, I was looking at some of the bows on the rack. I found the McPherson and ended up taking my rest and sights off the Reflex and put on the new bow. I gave my old Reflex to my nephew. He got it rigged back up and took his first deer with a bow with it. He's hooked on bow hunting now. I looked at some of the new Diamond bows today when they were putting the cable on. Kind of got the new bow bug now.

Way to go getting you nephew involved in the sport. I have found over the years that bowhunting is very addictive and can be very expensive. I tend to drool a little every year when new bows and accessories come out. I try to stay out of the shops if possible just for this reason. Welcome to the sight.

I'm glad he likes it. I got him started gun hunting. But now that he has taken a deer with a bow, he come to appreciate how much more intense bow hunting is over shooting one with a gun. I was proud of him this year. The way he told his story about hearing the deer coming thru the woods, he got his bow ready, and the deer walked right under the stand. He said he was sure the deer could hear his heart beating. He had to wait till the deer got turned enough for a broad side shot, and then made a good shot with a Rage tipped arrow thru the vitals. He said he couldn't believe when the deer ran about 30 yards and crashed. He called me on my cell and said he had got one. When I got there, about 10 minutes later, he was still in the stand. Said he wasn't sure he could climb down as shaky as he was. It brought back memories of my first deer with a bow. That was the first time he had hunted out of a tree stand, I was a little worried, we hang our stands at 20'. But he did great. I gave him my safety harness, I hunted out of a ladder stand that morning, he climbed right up and said he was fine being that high up. So I have a hunting partner from now on. My wife and I don't have kids so it's nice to be able to introduce him to the sport and take to it like he has. I think he is going to find out that bow hunting is a lot of work. Especially when it comes to putting out the food plots, cutting shooting lanes and moving stands. But that is part of the whole experience.

It is great he has a mentor like you . Sounds like he didn't rush the shot and got meat for the freezer. Congrats to you as well for adding another member to this hunting family.

Great stuff. I know that I use the expression "Awesome" too much but what better word to express the sentiment behind the fact that I greatly appreciate the story behind your nephews first deer with a bow?. It's awesome!!
