I was in my stand at 6:30 this morning. At 7:10 I saw movement out in front of me.Lots of trees so at first I thought it was squirrels. Then I saw a big fluffey tail.It was a big 40#+ female. She had come to check the gut pile from Sept 29 .She sniffed it squatted and took a leak in the leaves that have covered it.I have my bow up but think its 50+ yds.and I have a good arrow nocked with my others on the hook to my right. I figure it will keep coming in my direction. It went around the tree and came out broad side but I still figured I'd get a better shot .She kinda looked in my direction then turned and went back the way she came in.That was that.Twenty min. later I hear a bark then anouther then all hell brakes loose. There had to have been 10 or more howling yipping screaming and barking.I Knew if I didn't see a deer in the next min. I was done for the day . I got down and found she was only 40 yds. and I should have taken the shot.I have taken many coyotes and the one thing I have learned most of them don't give you a lot of time for a shot .

There is still some of that gut pile left from Sept. 29th, or is she just checking where it was? If she is just coming back to where it was, you'll get another shot.
Where I live, a gut pile is gone the next morning. I carry big contractor's grade trash bags to keep the guts of the last deer of the season in. I just love hunting over it the next day. If I make some howls I can kill more than one usually.

The gut pile was gone Sept 30. But the area did smell a little funky for a while. She peed in it so there might be more to it than looking for a meal? The buck I got this past Sat. looked like a vacuum cleaner was used to clean it up.There are so many things for coyotes to eat I don't know why this time of year they would bother.I have had them pull old deer hides and rib cages out of our junk hole in the end of winter and crack bones to get marrow but the winter is tough and I would expect it.Right now I see the ground covered with squirrels and chipmunks. You would think they would be hammering them
