Was out shooting yesterday afternoon getting ready to get on the stand. Ths was a fairly new bow, well new to me, and my groups where wider than I liked. I made a few adjustments and shot a few times. Then I noticed that I was consistently starting to shoot about 1 foot low.
My sight was bottomed out going down so I moved my peep and kisser higher up the string. Still I was shooting low. I was beyond fustrated. Then I heard a noise in the woods to my right. I move to teh bottom of the yard to see a nice buck, huge to me, trotting up the creek. I was like really!! Then I see three small does walking up the other side of teh creek heading up the hollow. Then the old boy comes back down the creek at a mere 60 yards from me and stands there for 20 minutes broadside. I wanted to cry literally. Here probly one of the biggest deer I have seen in the wild this close. All that was running through my head was my bow is shooting a foot low at 20 yards.
After the deer left I went back to piddling with the bow until the realization set in on me. I had not tuned the bow yet. I am such a bonehead. Since it was getting close to dark I started paper tuning to get an idea of what adjustments I needed to make. Will adjusting the rest I noticed that the spring tension on the LimbDriver had come loose. That explains my low shots. Made a few more adjustments to get everything close and then waited till today to check it out. Now I am shotting 3 inch groups at 40 yards. Which is normal for me.
Moral of this story is always tune your bow. So many people out there feel they can't shoot accurately because they are shooting a bow that has not been properly tuned. In fact I had not hunted much lately because my confidence was low. But now I am ready!!
I attached a trail cam picture of the buck I saw. If I dont get him this year I'm making him mark number one for next!! To date I have seen him 3 times. Twice in my front yard after legal shooting light.
