very nice smj Personally though, I would be willing to take the coke can shot if the following are met: 1) drew my bow without elk seeing me so that I am drawn and anchored when it turns and is facing dead on. 2) head up with attention elsewhere than me, but not alert/alarmed. 3) 30 yards or less. I have never had all my criteria met, so I have never taken an elk on this shot ... yet! What are your thoughts?

I have never tried it. I used to take animals to a cutter in Lyons, small town just in the foothills, he had all the popular broadheads of the time captured in elk shoulders and breast bones. Kind of made we want to wait for the higher percentage shot. That said, a buddy of mine was out with his kid. A 5x5 came walking in to his kid, straight at him, so the kid up and shoots this bull in the chest. It dropped dead in less than 100 yards. There is a small window of opportunity there, the kid says he didn't even think about where he was putting the arrow - just shot and got lucky!
