I have been shooting this one particular arrow a lot. It is a Beeman Max4. I have missed the target many times with this arrow, while practicing with my longbow. Today I hit it with another arrow and decided to check it because I noticed a scuff on it. I flexed it, while holding it close to my ear and I heard a "cracking" noise, when i flexed it in one direction. sure enough, it was starting to split. I promptly sent it from a quarter draw into the abyss that lies within the "cliff of death" behind my house. It could have been bad, had I kept shooting it, especially at full draw or with a heavier head. Please CHECK YOUR ARROWS!

That probably would have hurt Since I'm shooting the Aluminums with my stick I have been checking my arrows for bends as opposed to breaks It's impossible to see cracks in carbon at times and that quick bend and turn is worth it if you miss the mark.

That is one point I make whenever I am teaching archery in Hunter Ed classes. Bend & flex and listen real close, if in doubt throw it out. Better to waste a good $6 shaft that shoot a bad one and recieve an injury that may mess you up for life.
On a different note, I was heading to work an EMT gig on friday and before I even got there I came across an car/motorcycle accident. When I got to the guy he was in lala land but breathing and when I did my trauma assessment I found the right hand about 80% amputated. All I could think of was what would I do if it happened to me, there goes my archery and guns for a long, long time if not forever.

I have thought about that as well and you can bet that I'd be shooting a tension release on some type of contraption

Either that or use my mouth. There is a guy here at the shop I use that lost an arm. first year out after his injury he pulled with his remaining arm and held the bow sith his feet. then he switched to pulling with his teeth.
I have tried a tension release once. And never could get it to go off.......I'll stick with my old Gatorjaw.

I have seen a person shooting with his teeth in a magazine. Maybe it was the same guy?....hard to imagine a whole lot of people being in the situation.
