I thought I answered this one?!. Aroostook county Maine...no guide needed. So many bear that you'd have to be blind not to see one. Simply put.... Find a logging road (not to hard) drive in a few miles and park. Take a gps reading start walking. 4 hours out and 4 hours back. if you do this .... there is about no way at all that you wont take a bear. Having two people helps. One walks one day and the other guy gets the next day. If one gets a bear down, you radio the other to come pick you up. No cell signal though....so you do need radio's Some logging area's are on lease, so call the companies directly or call the local game warden for the area

I went to Cooper Camp and had a good hunt and they used to let you come back the following year for free if you didn't get a shot. This in Quebec.

I did exactly that...I might end up going with an outfitter at first, since I know nothing about bear hunting.

Well, after much looking around, it seems that Maine does not have a spring bear season..only fall. Didnt know this till one of the outfitters emailed me back.. looks like it'll get put off a little longer

No problem... I am really leaning towards North Country Lodge in Arastook County... Looks like a nice little getaway. I might even email them to see about a last minute hunt for this fall, right after I get home, if they have cancellations or something
