Today was my last day hunting for the season. The last 3 days I've been hunting a small piece of property that I neglected all season. X-mas morning I saw 12 deer, all out of range. Yestrday I had 3 doe in range, but couldn't get drawn without getting busted. This morning, around 7:30 I have a doe come running across the lawn to my stand. I grab the bow, and hook on my release and get ready. She starts down the trail to my stand. Straight at me, no shot. She stops at about 12 yards, and is browsing. After what felt like an eternity, but was probably 2 minutes, she turns, almost straight away from me. I stand, and draw in one motion. Settle the pin at about half way back on the body, due to the hard quartering angle. I let one fly. On the shot the deer spins 180 degrees, and heads straight to me. For a second I think I missed, then I see her pumping blood. She ran about 20 yards, stood for about 30 seconds trying to keep her feet under her, all the while pumping blood out both holes, and her nose and mouth. Then it was over. I was so pumped! I can't believe the amout of blood this deer put out in a short time. The doe, ended up being a button buck. The shot was a little farther forward then I wanted, right behind the shoulder, and exited out the lower neck. He had his head down feeding on the shot. He dressed out just under 80 pounds. Great was to end a horrible 2008!!! blood trail from the treestand... More bloodtrail pics in the bloodtrails section!

. Great way to end a horrible 2008!!! You said it all right there!. Very Nice ______________ HEY!IS THAT A FENCE ?!....ARE YOU HUNTING A FENCED AREA?!! ;D ;D ;D Yes, that is a fence...lol. The deer was about 15 feet from leaving the property. The piece of property is 7 acres, with about 6 1/2 acres of mowed grass. My stand is in a little strip of overgrown stuff, right atthe bottom of the property. Here is a different perspective of the land.... You can see the bottom of my ladder stand in the upper right. The building in the upper left is a barn. The house in the upper middle is the landowners. The beige house, just to the left of the tree is actually on the other side of a fairly busy road. This is one of the reasons I don't hunt here often. Hard to get into the zone with so much activity around.

That looks like a fine spot to me. I do alot of my hunting in areas like that. Nice to see I am not the only one . It does how ever make you pick the perfect shots, so I feel it has made me a better hunter.
