Here is the opening where neither bone nor flesh nor gut exsist. As you can see.....there is not an easy opening that is not bordered by the potential for losses However...there are area's that will allow you to miss and still recover and area's that will not allow for that option Bone is the enemy (unless your Greg ) whereas gut can allow easy recovery....provide that you sit tight and don't move in to quickly Flesh....it's a flesh wound!.....dont worry about it!....the deer wont PLEASE!!!! Shoot for the middle/back of this open kill area

Good idea on the red dot. This gives a much better idea of just how on you need to be....very little room for error for a clean kill

This is the shot that I took forever it seemed....never lost a deer to it. Below is the shot that I started taking perhaps 3 years ago.....due to brain washing by the masses. To date....I cant count the deer I have lost off hand but I would say that the total is closer to a dozen than three or four. The main reason for these loses are due to the deer moving on the shot or during. When a deer string jumps, the scapula becomes the point of contact when aiming in this area.

I've been lucky I suppose...lost 2 animals total. One hog and one doe...both in the pouring rain and standing water. No chance for a blood trail. Our choice of shot placement only looks about 2 inches apart. The most important factor for me is aiming a bit higher than most suggest. Double lung shot deer have never run nearly as far as heart shots in my limited experience.

The reason that I have concentrated so hard on finding heads that will take the abuse of the scapula shot is due in very large part on the fact that a majority of people have been convinced that the heart shot area is the area to aim. Persons such as Greg Krause can blow through an elephants skull at 80 yards but for the high majority of bowhunters....the scapula is the area that ends the hunt on a sour note. I blame celebrity hunters for this faulty education which they (the majority) have touted for some time now in film and on t.v. The thing to understand is that most celebrities are not bowhunters but rather gun hunters that picked up the bow to further their own agenda. Also note that these celebrities seemingly know their business only because they get to edit out the losses....unlike the rest of us in the real world A show of hands.....honest hands.....who has lost a deer to a scapula shot while holding tight to the front leg? How about a show of hands for those who have held just forward of center?.
