I voted lungs, but my perfect shot actually hits all three. Seems like when I hit the heart, they go a little further; when I take out both lungs they usually go down faster. I don't know if it is due to an adrenaline dump into the heart or what does when you hit it, but if you shut off the oxygen with a solid lung hit, they can't run for long.
One things for sure, I'll take either, because either way, they are done 'fer. ;D

I'm ALWAYS in favor of a double lung hit! If the animal can't breath, it is not going to go far! However, I always try to ensure a positive double lung hit because with ONE lung, they can run a long ways....whether it's a deer, hog, ram or whatever. I opted for a back half double lung hit on the big hog I shot last year (about 650-700 lbs) and he only made it about 30 yards or less (Slick trick 100 gr. Mag.) I have had occasions on deer over the years where a hit THROUGH THE HEART with .270, 30-30, 7MM Mag and others allowed the deer to run as far as 150 yards or more, but on lung hits (double), they never made it more than 20-40 yards. One buck was missing half his heart and STILL ran almost 200 yards....ALL UP HILL!

I try and take out both lungs and the top of the heart. You hit them there and they won't go far at all!

I am a double lung fan. One reason I want the lungs is that it offers a larger target than the heart. Another reason is mentioned above, they can go far without air.
Lockmaster stated what I have seen with rifles also. A heart shot tends to lead to more tracking, where as they only go a short distance with a lung shot. I have killed several deer with a lung shot from a rifle and they were DRT!!! That is always a plus.

I voted for double lung for this is what I would rather hit, just like everyone said you can't go far without air.Ido sometimes aim for the heart on occasions like it is going to take off this way when the deer goes naturally down to take run I will hit the lungs.
