Yesterday I walked out to check my bait station and I could tell there had been a bear on it. I went home, got my tree stand and packed it in. My plan was to hang the stand then go back today to set on it. When I got back to the bait station nothing had been on the bait while I was gone. Got the stand hung and decide that I needed to cut one more limb, so I climbed back down to get the saw. While I was down I thought that I might as well pull the bow up and check that nothing was in the way when I came to full draw. Climbed back up to the stand and got my safety harness hooked up, turned around and set down to see that I did not have the tether to high. As soon as I set down and looked up, here comes a bear out of the alders about 30 yards away. My bow is still on the ground. After about 10 minutes the bear started feed on the bait, which is about 15 yards from my tree. I thought that I might as well try to pull my bow up. The bow must have made a little noise when it left the ground as the bear ran off a few steps, stopped. I waited until it came back to the bait and started feeding again before I resumed pulling the bow up to the stand. After about 10 minutes I was able to get the bow up without spooking the bear. Then it was just a matter of time until I got the shot that I wanted so the 100-grain Spitfire could do its job. Double lung shot bear did not go 20 yards before it was down. Not a big bear but will be good eating.

Last year I used a slick trick and did not have all that good of a blood trail. After seeing the results that people on here have got with the spitfires I thought that I would give them a try. If it had not been the information I have gotten off this site I probably would not have tried them. I am impressed with the spitfires performance. Huge holes.

This guy that has been shooting Jackhammers for years, but never for bear, swears they get caught up in the thick fur so he doesn't use them....guess he should have used Spitfires...that is awesome akdd... Very nicely done. sometimes it is a matter of just being in the right spot more that it is preperation.
