A buddy of mine shot an elephant and said after he killed it a bunch of villiges showed up and hacked the thing to peices in just a few hours! To them it is a matter of survival. They get the meat, they get the chance to sell soveniers, some get payed as trackers and elephants can destroy crops and villeges. they need to be controlled just like any animal. look at what damage an over population of deer can do! Just think of too many elephants! I was talking to my taxi and he was saying that the huge price has to due with being able to export the ivory and such. He said he has clients that are going to countries where exportation is illegal and hunting elephants for 5K. they just can't bring anything home. Some of them are finding places to store the ivory in hopes that soon they will be able to export. The african government charges based on the weight of the tusk. My brother just took one that he'd paid for before leaving, turns out the offical weight was 2 pounds more putting his in a higher catagory. He owed another 2500. The trip excluding getting there and everything else cost 21,000. It did include other animals, but I think the elephants initial cost was 17,000. Shipping cost of the what will be mounted and taxi bill to folow.

I was interested in getting those Speed Pro arrows, but I didn't 'cause of different reviews that they weren't good, ... that they cracked /shatter when they hit each other while shooting them at a target. They may shatter, but now it's proven that they can kill an elephant and almost pass through them. Go figure! If you shoot them into a group, they can indeed spit. However, they are very strong straight on.

It doesn't look like a huge elephant.
