Being the total green horn on this subject I will happily sit back and listen
If you were to explain what vocals work when and when not to use them that would be great.
Also....include what to watch for in terms of body language.

there is no science to it. give 'em what they want and don't over call. i use mostly yelps and clucks.

And as Skip said don't over call If there less than a 100 yards away and coming I don't call at all unless, it's light purrs and clucks.

I started to get the purr yesterday but it's harder with a mouth can than with a slate ;D

For me, an occasional "purr" with a few (4-5) clucks followed by yelps (6-8) seems to work very well!

I started to get the purr yesterday but it's harder with a mouth can than with a slate ;D I have been calling for 15 years and I still have a problem with doing purrs with a mouth call. I use my box call with a cut and cluck adapter from from A-Way hunting products to do my purrs.

yeah, purrs are much easier on a slate. My purrs with a mouth call sound like a spastic turkey!

Purrs, Purrs, and more Purrs....along with my new secret weapon...the sqeaky chalk on the chalkboard sound that brought the Tom that BT got the shot at last year that came in from 80 yds.....
